Material overview

17-4PH is a precipitation-hardening martensitic stainless steel that combines high strength and hardness with good corrosion resistance. Printed by LPBF it reaches over 99.5% density; a solution and age treatment (H900–H1150) develops strength past 1300 MPa and 40–44 HRC. It is the go-to alloy where 316L is not strong enough — structural brackets, valve and pump bodies, shafts and hard-wearing tooling. Magnetic; readily machined, passivated or polished after printing.

Highlights
  • Density: >99.5% — near-wrought
  • Strength: ages past 1300 MPa (H900)
  • Hardness: 40–44 HRC after ageing
  • Heat-treatable: H900–H1150 conditions
