Material overview

18Ni300 is a martensitic, age-hardenable maraging steel (Fe-Ni-Co-Mo) printed fully dense by LPBF. As-built it is tough and readily machined; a single low-temperature ageing cycle (~490 °C) precipitates intermetallics that raise strength past 1,900 MPa and hardness to 50-54 HRC with minimal distortion. The combination of high strength, polishability and conformal-cooling freedom makes it the standard alloy for injection-mould inserts, dies and high-load tooling.

Highlights
  • Aged UTS: ~1,950-2,050 MPa
  • Hardness: 50-54 HRC after ageing
  • Tooling: conformal-cooling inserts
  • Stability: low distortion on ageing
