The OptimScan-5M Plus mounts on a tripod or stand for repeatable benchtop and shop-floor metrology.

Why metrology teams choose the OptimScan-5M Plus

Certified sub-0.01 mm accuracy on small, high-value parts.

Certified sub-0.01 mm accuracy

Single-shot accuracy down to 0.005 mm and point distance to 0.04 mm, verified to VDI/VDE 2634 Part 3 in an ISO 17025-certified lab — fixed, calibrated numbers for QC sign-off, not marketing estimates.

Three lens configurations, one system

Interchangeable 100/200/400 optics trade scan area for resolution: 100 × 75 mm at 0.04 mm point distance up to 400 × 300 mm at 0.16 mm — one system covers small precision parts through mid-size assemblies.

Automatic marker alignment + GREC control

One-click marker alignment and the GREC global-deviation-control module minimize cumulative error across multi-scan datasets; built-in environmental vibration detection flags an unstable setup before it corrupts a scan.

Reflective and glass surfaces

Narrow-band blue LED illumination captures reflective and glass surfaces — including smartphone glass-panel inspection — without full-color texture; built for dimensional geometry, not documentation scans.

Scanning Performance

The OptimScan-5M Plus pairs two 5 MP industrial cameras with a 1080P blue-LED DLP projector across three interchangeable lens configurations. The -100 lens resolves 0.04 mm point distance and 0.005 mm single-shot accuracy over a 100 × 75 mm field; the -200 lens covers 200 × 150 mm at 0.08 mm point distance and 0.01 mm accuracy; the -400 lens extends to 400 × 300 mm at 0.16 mm point distance and 0.015 mm accuracy. Each scan completes in 1.5 seconds or less, with automatic marker alignment and the GREC global-deviation-control module holding accuracy across multi-scan datasets. See full specifications below.

Working Range & Portability

Working distance is fixed at 560 mm across all three lens configurations, with the system tripod- or stand-mounted for benchtop or shop-floor use — this is a stationary metrology scanner, not a handheld device. At 6.8 kg and 435 × 300 × 200 mm, it stays compact enough to move between inspection stations but remains tethered to a workstation over USB 3.0; there is no battery or wireless mode. Operating range is 0–40 °C and 10–90% RH, matching typical QC lab and shop-floor environments.

Software & Workflow

OptimScan software runs the full workflow — calibration, capture, alignment, and AI-assisted data cleanup — and exports to .asc, .stl, and .obj for direct use in mainstream CAD and inspection packages such as Geomagic, SolidWorks, and PolyWorks. Recommended PC configuration is an NVIDIA GTX 1080 or better with 4 GB+ VRAM, an Intel Core i7-8700 or better, and 32 GB+ RAM. The system does not capture full-color texture — it is built for dimensional geometry, not documentation scans.

Common questions

Don't see yours? Email [email protected] — NDA standard, typical reply within 4 hours.

What accuracy can I expect from the OptimScan-5M Plus on a small precision part?
On the -100 lens, the OptimScan-5M Plus delivers up to 0.005 mm single-shot accuracy and 0.04 mm point distance over a 100 × 75 mm field, verified to VDI/VDE 2634 Part 3 in an ISO 17025-certified lab. The -200 and -400 lenses trade some accuracy (0.01 mm and 0.015 mm) for a larger 200 × 150 mm or 400 × 300 mm field. This is a stationary metrology system built for small-to-mid parts, not a 1-meter object in a single shot — larger assemblies are covered by stitching multiple scans with the GREC deviation-control module. We can run a sample scan of your actual part so you see real numbers before you buy.
Does the OptimScan-5M Plus need a controlled lighting environment?
Yes. As a stationary blue-LED structured-light system, the OptimScan-5M Plus is designed for indoor lab or shop-floor use under normal ambient lighting, not direct sunlight or highly variable outdoor conditions. It ships with an operating range of 0–40 °C and 10–90% RH, which covers typical QC lab and production-floor environments. Built-in environmental vibration detection flags an unstable mounting or bench setup before it affects a scan.
Which CAD and QC software does the OptimScan-5M Plus export to?
The OptimScan-5M Plus exports .asc, .stl, and .obj, which import directly into mainstream reverse-engineering and inspection packages such as Geomagic, SolidWorks, and PolyWorks. OptimScan software handles calibration, capture, alignment, and AI-assisted data cleanup on the recommended workstation. Our applications engineers can help set up the export path into your specific CAD or metrology workflow.
Can it scan dark or reflective surfaces, including glass, without spray?
The OptimScan-5M Plus's narrow-band blue LED illumination is used in production for smartphone glass-panel inspection and other reflective components, generally reducing the need for scanning spray compared with white-light systems. Very dark, matte-black, or mirror-finish surfaces may still need a light matting agent for complete data. Tell us your material and finish and we will confirm whether the OptimScan-5M Plus handles it before you purchase.
How do the three lens configurations (100/200/400) differ?
The OptimScan-5M Plus ships in three lens configurations that trade scan area for point-cloud density. The -100 lens covers a 100 × 75 mm field at 0.04 mm point distance and 0.005 mm accuracy — the finest detail. The -200 lens covers 200 × 150 mm at 0.08 mm point distance and 0.01 mm accuracy. The -400 lens covers 400 × 300 mm at 0.16 mm point distance and 0.015 mm accuracy — the widest field. Working distance is a fixed 560 mm across all three; tell us your part size and target accuracy and we'll confirm the right configuration.
How often does the OptimScan-5M Plus need recalibration?
Every unit ships with its calibration board, and we verify accuracy against VDI/VDE 2634 Part 3 before it leaves us. In normal lab or shop-floor use, recalibrate periodically or after the unit is moved, bumped, or exposed to a temperature swing — the onboard vibration-detection feature will also flag an unstable setup before you scan. Installation and training cover the calibration routine so your team can confirm the scanner is in spec whenever a QC job demands it.
Is the OptimScan-5M Plus battery-powered or wireless?
No — the OptimScan-5M Plus is a stationary, tethered system connected to a workstation over USB 3.0; it has no battery and no wireless mode. It requires a PC meeting the recommended configuration (NVIDIA GTX 1080 or better with 4 GB+ VRAM, Intel Core i7-8700 or better, 32 GB+ RAM) to run OptimScan software. If you need an untethered or handheld metrology scanner instead, ask us about the OptimScan Q12/Q9 or FreeScan Combo.
