Description
PowderRange® 304 is a chromium-nickel austenitic 304 Stainless Steel powder engineered for metal additive manufacturing using LPBF and EBM processes. As the most widely used stainless steel grade, 304 offers excellent fabricability, weldability, and reliable corrosion resistance across a wide range of industrial environments.
This alloy is non-magnetic in the annealed condition and becomes slightly magnetic when cold worked. PowderRange® 304 cannot be hardened by heat treatment, which simplifies post-processing and ensures stable mechanical properties. Its balanced strength-to-weight ratio and corrosion resistance make it well suited for functional components where durability and formability are critical.
PowderRange® 304 supports a wide range of secondary operations, including machining, welding, polishing, and surface finishing, making it a versatile, production-ready stainless steel solution for additive manufacturing.

Frequently asked questions
What is 304 stainless steel powder?
304 is a chromium-nickel austenitic stainless steel powder commonly used in metal additive manufacturing. It offers good corrosion resistance, excellent weldability, and stable mechanical properties.
Which additive manufacturing processes are compatible with 304 powder?
PowderRange® 304 is compatible with:
Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) and Electron Beam Melting (EBM)
Can 304 stainless steel be heat treated for increased strength?
No. 304 stainless steel is not hardenable by heat treatment. Its mechanical properties remain stable after printing, simplifying post-processing.
Is 304 stainless steel magnetic?
304 is non-magnetic in the annealed condition but may become slightly magnetic after cold working.
What industries commonly use 304 stainless steel powder?
It is widely used in automotive, industrial manufacturing, and medical industries.
What types of parts are typically produced using 304 powder?
Common applications include medical devices, chemical processing equipment, and components for water and boiler systems.
Is 304 stainless steel easy to weld and post-process?
Yes. 304 offers excellent weldability and fabricability and supports machining, polishing, and standard surface finishing methods.
Why choose 304 over other stainless steels?
304 is often selected for its balance of corrosion resistance, ease of fabrication, and cost-effectiveness when extreme strength or high-temperature performance is not required.
