Low-carbon austenitic stainless steel with good corrosion resistance, especially against intergranular corrosion. It prints in argon or nitrogen, is non-magnetic when annealed and cannot be hardened by heat treatment. Made by Carpenter Additive (PowderRange 304L).

Carpenter does not publish printed-property data on the datasheet for this alloy. Ask our materials engineer for available data, or qualify the alloy on test coupons from your machine.
Heat treatment
Carpenter datasheet, process guidance
- 304L cannot be strengthened by heat treatment.
- Solution anneal to improve corrosion resistance; the datasheet does not give a schedule, so follow your specification.
- Non-magnetic in the annealed condition.
- Finishing: machining, abrasive flow machining, shot peening, grinding, polishing and chemical milling all work.

Keep the container closed, dry and at room temperature until you load the printer.

Sieve before loading and every time you reuse powder recovered from a build.
