Heat treatment
Carpenter datasheet, process guidance
- Stress relief per AMS2759: 371 °C (700 °F), 1 hour.
- Solution anneal for better corrosion resistance: 1038 °C (1900 °F), 1 hour per 3 in of thickness, water quench.
- HIP to close porosity: 100 MPa at about 1141 °C for 240 minutes in argon, then solution anneal.
- 316L does not age-harden; it is often used as-built or after stress relief.

Will it run on my printer?
Carpenter states that PowderRange powders are compatible with all commercially available laser powder bed fusion equipment. The 15–45 µm F cut is the LPBF cut; for DED and EBM, use the 45–106 µm option above. Ask our materials engineer for starting parameters for your machine.
