What your process engineer actually checks

A flame rating tied to a wall thickness

UL 94 V-0 on xPRO9400-FR is rated at 2 mm — thinner sections are not covered by that rating, and the top heat numbers need the three-hour 150 °C thermal post-cure. We give you the cure schedule and the wall-thickness caveat up front so your compliance submission does not come back.

About this product

Nexa3D xPRO9400-FR is a halogen-free, flame-retardant engineering photopolymer developed with BASF Forward AM — for functional parts that must resist ignition and high temperatures, from electrical enclosures to rail interior components.

Why engineers choose xPRO9400-FR

Fire and thermal performance documented on the Nexa3D TDS.

Flame retardant

UL 94 V-0 at 2 mm (V-1 at 1.5 mm), halogen-free. Rail DIN EN 45545-2 HL1/HL2, LOI ≥ 28, low smoke per ISO 5659-2.

Very high heat resistance

HDT up to ~250 °C at 0.45 MPa (141 °C at 1.82 MPa) after a 150 °C post-cure. Glass transition 175 °C.

Rigid and strong

71–78 MPa tensile, 115 MPa flexural, 88 Shore D — plus electrical-insulator resistivity for enclosures.

LSPc workflow

Runs on Nexa3D XiP, XiP Pro, and NXE 400Pro with validated NexaX profiles. Preheat 5 h at 60 °C before printing.

From cartridge to finished part

A short thermal step unlocks the full fire and heat rating.

Step 01
Preheat & print

Preheat 5 h at 60 °C, shake until clear, load the profile in NexaX, and print on your LSPc system.

Step 02
Wash

Clean in xClean, then IPA — no more than 2 minutes in xClean or 5 minutes in IPA.

Step 03
Cure

UV post-cure, then an optional 3-hour 150 °C thermal treatment for peak fire and heat performance.

Technical specifications

Values from the Nexa3D xPRO9400-FR TDS (2024 v5), fully post-cured. Highest HDT figures require the optional 3-hour 150 °C thermal post-treatment; UL 94 V-0 applies at 2 mm.

Common questions

Don't see yours? Email [email protected] — NDA standard, typical reply within 4 hours.

What exactly does the UL 94 V-0 rating on xPRO9400-FR cover?
Nexa3D rates xPRO9400-FR as UL 94 V-0 at 2 mm wall thickness. That rating applies to specimens of that thickness, cured to the published schedule — it is not a blanket claim for every geometry you print. Thin walls, lattices and hollow sections behave differently and are outside the rated condition. If your part needs to be presented in a compliance file, print test coupons at your production wall thickness and cure profile, and have them evaluated. Our materials engineer will help you plan that coupon set.
Which Nexa3D printers run the 1.5 kg xPRO9400-FR cartridge?
The 1.5 kg smart cartridge is the XiP and XiP Pro format: it drops into the printer, and the NFC chip hands NexaX the validated xPRO9400-FR profile and lot data. NXE 400 and 400Pro machines take bottles instead of cartridges, so this pack will not fit them. If you are not sure which format your machine uses, send us the serial number and we will confirm before shipping. Mixing formats is the single most common ordering mistake on Nexa3D materials.
What post-processing does xPRO9400-FR need to reach its published properties?
Wash in xCLEAN, then rinse in IPA, keeping soak times short so the part does not swell. Dry thoroughly, then UV post-cure at 405 nm. The flame-retardant and high-temperature properties additionally require a three-hour thermal post-cure at 150 °C — without it, the resin still prints, but you cannot claim the rated performance. A convection oven with reliable set-point control is enough; we can advise on ramp rates and part support during the thermal step.
What applications is xPRO9400-FR intended for?
It is built for parts where flammability is a design requirement: electrical enclosures and connector housings, rail and transit interior components, aerospace and defence cabin brackets, and electronics fixtures that sit near heat sources. It is an engineering resin, not a dental or skin-contact material. If your specification cites a rail or aerospace fire standard rather than UL 94, send us the clause — we will tell you honestly whether xPRO9400-FR is a candidate or whether you need a different route.
Is xPRO9400-FR halogen-free?
Yes — Nexa3D formulates xPRO9400-FR with a halogen-free flame-retardant package, which matters for customers with RoHS-adjacent internal restrictions or with end-of-life and smoke-toxicity concerns. For any formal declaration, work from the current Nexa3D safety data sheet and technical data sheet for the lot you receive rather than from a web page. We will send both documents with your order and can request an updated declaration from the manufacturer if your compliance team needs one on file.
How should the cartridge be stored, and can I keep a part cartridge?
Store the cartridge sealed, upright, at normal indoor room temperature, away from daylight and UV lamps. A part-used cartridge can stay in the printer between jobs if the machine is closed and the room is not sunlit; for longer breaks, cap it and shelve it in the dark. Agitate before the next print so the flame-retardant fillers redisperse. Each cartridge carries a lot and expiry on its label — use that date, and never decant used vat resin back into it.
Can I order several cartridges or raise an official purchase order?
Yes. Use the Custom volume quote button for multi-cartridge orders and we will confirm price, lot availability and freight. Official purchase orders and net terms on approved accounts are standard, and we can consolidate shipments if you stock several Nexa3D materials. A materials engineer reviews every volume request — if a different grade is a better fit for your part or your fire specification, we will say so before you commit the budget.
