About this product

PowderRange® 718 (Inconel® 718) is the “workhorse” nickel-base superalloy and a key material for high-temperature aerospace, energy and industrial parts. This age-hardenable alloy delivers exceptionally high yield, tensile and creep-rupture properties up to 1300°F (704°C).

Its sluggish age-hardening response allows annealing without spontaneous hardening, plus highly customizable heat treatments. With good phase stability, minimal segregation and low crack susceptibility, it is one of the most processable superalloys for laser AM — and shows excellent mechanical properties even in the as-processed state.

Why teams buy this powder from Additive Plus

  • Genuine Carpenter PowderRange® 718 — gas-atomized for high sphericity, low oxygen and consistent flow.
  • Available in small, workable volumes. Most mills sell large minimums and hide pricing behind an account. We stock this alloy and sell it in accessible quantities at a clear, published price.
  • Full COA with every lot — particle size distribution, chemistry, apparent density and flow rate, with a traceable lot number.
  • Fast dispatch from Los Angeles.
  • Need a custom alloy or a tighter cut? We also run our own atomization in-house and can produce custom small-batch powder on request — separate from this stocked product.

Standards & equivalents

  • Applicable specifications: ASTM F3055 · AMS 5662 · AMS 5664 · UNS N07718 · DIN 2.4668
  • Equivalents / alternate names: Inconel 718 · Alloy 718 · LaserForm Ni718
  • Machine type: F — LPBF · also E — EBM / DED · Particle size: 15–45 µm · Bottle: 10 kg / 22 lbs
  • Quality: manufactured by Carpenter Additive under AS9100, AS9120, ISO 9001 & ISO 13485 quality systems. (These certifications are Carpenter’s, covering the powder; Additive Plus resells genuine, fully traceable lots and is not itself a certified manufacturer.)

Chemical composition

Typical chemistry (wt%), per the Carpenter PowderRange® datasheet:

Element Content Element Content
Nickel (Ni) 50.00–55.00% Aluminum (Al) 0.20–0.80%
Iron (Fe) Balance Cobalt (Co) ≤ 1.00%
Chromium (Cr) 17.0–21.0% Copper (Cu) ≤ 0.30%
Niobium + Tantalum 4.75–5.50% Manganese (Mn) ≤ 0.35%
Molybdenum (Mo) 2.80–3.30% Silicon (Si) ≤ 0.35%
Titanium (Ti) 0.65–1.15% Carbon (C) ≤ 0.08%
Boron (B) ≤ 0.006% Phosphorus (P) ≤ 0.015%
Sulfur (S) ≤ 0.015% Nitrogen / Oxygen ≤ 0.03% each

Heat treatment & processing

  • Age-hardenable — solution anneal followed by aging (e.g. per AMS 5662 / 5664) to reach full strength.
  • Sluggish aging response gives a wide, forgiving heat-treatment window and highly customizable properties.
  • Good phase stability, minimal segregation and low crack susceptibility — excellent processability in laser AM, with strong as-processed properties.

Key performance benefits

  • High tensile, fatigue and creep resistance up to 1300°F (704°C)
  • Customizable properties through heat treatment
  • Resistance to chlorides, stress corrosion and sulfide stress cracking
  • Excellent processability and low crack susceptibility in AM

Typical applications

  • Jet-engine and high-speed airframe parts
  • Gas-turbine components
  • Oil-and-gas tooling
  • High-temperature impellers
  • Instrumentation devices

Same lot 4 times in a row. We stopped re-running parameter sweeps after the second order — density was identical to the first build.

Asked about ferrite content on a Friday. A materials engineer answered Monday morning with actual data, not a sales pitch. That's why we keep ordering.

COA matches the bottle. PSD and flow are exactly what was on the sheet — we run it on a Renishaw 500Q and it hits density on the first try.
