What your metallography lab actually checks

Zero-stress mounting

UV cold curing embeds fragile, porous and heat-sensitive AM samples without the heat or pressure that would distort a lattice or delaminate a coating — the specimen you analyze is the specimen you made.

An applications engineer on the line

Method setup, consumable selection and troubleshooting from engineers who run sample prep and materials characterization in-house. Sub-4h reply, NDA standard.

About this product

The QATM QMOUNT is a modern device for light-curing (UV) cold mounting of materialographic samples. It embeds heat- and pressure-sensitive specimens — delicate AM parts, electronics, porous structures — in transparent resin fast, without the heat or pressure of a hot press.

Why labs choose the QMOUNT

Cold, fast, transparent mounting for sensitive samples.

No heat, no pressure

365 nm UV curing embeds samples that would deform, oxidize or crack under a hot press — delicate AM lattices, coatings and electronics.

Short cycle

Powerful custom LED technology cures in a very short time frame; transparent samples release quickly.

Transparent mounts

See the specimen position through the mount for precise sectioning and orientation.

Safer handling

A QATM suction unit connects directly to improve work safety around the resin.

How Additive Plus delivers the QMOUNT

Common questions

Don't see yours? Email [email protected] — NDA standard, typical reply within 4 hours.

When should I choose UV cold mounting over a hot press?
Choose the QMOUNT when heat or pressure would damage the sample — delicate AM lattices, porous structures, electronics and PCBs, or coatings whose properties change with temperature. UV curing at 365 nm embeds the specimen at low stress, so what you analyze is what you made. For robust bulk metals, a hot press like the OPAL 410 is usually faster.
What curing wavelength and time does the QMOUNT use?
The QMOUNT cures with customized, powerful LED technology at 365 nm, with curing time adjustable from 0 to 100 minutes to suit the resin and mould size. Typical polymerization temperature stays around 70–90 °C depending on the application — far gentler than a hot press.
How large a sample can the QMOUNT mount?
The QMOUNT offers a maximum sample support surface of 200 × 260 mm and a maximum sample height of 40 mm, so it handles a range of specimen and mould sizes in one device. A QATM suction unit can be connected to improve work safety around the resin.
Are the QMOUNT mounts transparent, and why does that matter?
Yes — the UV-transparent moulds and resin produce a clear mount, so you can see the specimen's position and orientation through the block. That makes precise sectioning and alignment easier, and the transparent sample releases from the mould within a short time frame.
What is the lead time for the QMOUNT and what's included?
The QMOUNT is configured to your specimens and built to order, so lead time depends on the current configuration and production queue — request a current timeline and we'll confirm it in writing. Every unit includes installation and operator training plus a tailored service plan. Additive Plus is an authorized QATM channel, so sales, setup, training and service run through one partner. Tell us your materials and sample sizes and we'll quote the right configuration.
What support does Additive Plus provide after the QMOUNT is installed?
After the QMOUNT is installed and your team is trained, you get method help, consumable selection and troubleshooting from engineers who run metallographic sample preparation in-house — not a remote ticket queue. Reply times are under 24 hours, typically sub-4h, NDA standard. A tailored service plan covers maintenance and spare parts so the machine stays in production, and we help dial in methods for your specific alloys.
How does the QMOUNT fit additive-manufacturing quality control?
Reliable AM QC — porosity and density counts, grain and phase analysis, layer-bonding and weld inspection, failure analysis — all start from a correctly prepared cross-section. The QMOUNT is one step in that chain (sectioning, mounting, grinding, polishing, etching and optical analysis), and Additive Plus can supply the whole chain so results stay consistent and defensible. Send a specimen and we'll prepare it as a service before you commit.
