What your process engineer actually checks
From printed prototype to molded part
We use injection molding to bridge our own printed prototypes into short runs, so install includes validated parameters for your resin and tooling guidance. The team that trains you actually molds parts — not a distributor reading a manual.
An applications engineer on the line
Questions on tooling, shot size, cycle times, or pellet selection? A named applications engineer answers directly. Most replies in under 4 hours, NDA standard.
Swap mold inserts in minutes on your APSX-PIM
The MUD (Master Unit Die) base is a universal mold frame for the APSX-PIM desktop injection molding machine. Mount a 3D-printed or machined metal mold insert, align it on the pre-installed guide pins and bushings, and start molding — then swap to the next insert without redesigning your clamping scheme.
- Rapid changeovers — swap inserts without a new clamping setup
- Dense ½″ mounting grid of 1/4-20 threaded holes for flexible hole patterns and secure insert retention
- Repeatable alignment and consistent insert positioning, shot after shot
- Ideal for prototype molds, low-volume production, and education/training
Built for 3D-printed mold inserts
Print mold inserts in rigid, high-temperature tooling materials (high-temp SLA/DLP tooling resins or 3D-printed metal), bolt them to the grid, and iterate mold designs in days instead of weeks. Mold inserts are not included. Note: there is no temperature-sensor hole for 3D-printed inserts, and a mold insulator is recommended to keep mold temperature stable over longer runs.

Pairs well with the APSX-PIM Plastic Material Starter Kit for process tuning on new molds.
FAQs
Does it include mold inserts?
No — the base ships with bushings and guide pins installed; you mount your own 3D-printed or machined metal inserts. Additive Plus can also print inserts to your CAD.
What insert mounting does it use?
Each half carries a 9×7 grid of 1/4-20 threaded holes on a 0.500″ (half-inch) pitch, so you can bolt down inserts, clamp bars, and custom retention plates in flexible patterns.
Which machine is it for?
The APSX-PIM desktop plastic injection molding machine.
What are the dimensions?
4.8″W × 6.0″H × 2.0″D, with the mounting grid on each side of the MUD base (both halves).

We mold our own. Tooling and trials on request.
Need a mold built, an insert cut, or a trial run before committing? We can produce tooling and run sample shots on the actual machine so you see molded parts first. Typical tooling lead 2–4 weeks.
From production teams running APSX-PIM MUD Base (Half-Inch Pitch)
Unedited feedback from teams who bought and run APSX-PIM MUD Base (Half-Inch Pitch).
We bridged a 3D-printed prototype to a 500-part run on the bench machine. Cycle times were exactly as quoted.
Asked about tooling for a small insert. An engineer walked us through it and ran a trial shot, no sales pitch.
Install included validated parameters for our resin. First parts were in spec — minimal trial-and-error.
