What your process engineer actually checks

Rubber that survives the second assembly

xFLEX475-Black measures 44 Shore A with 150% elongation at break, 47% energy return and 7.3 kN/m tear strength. That combination is what gets checked on the line: soft enough to seal, elastic enough to snap back, and tough enough that seals, grips and lattice struts survive repeated assembly and demoulding cycles instead of tearing at the first stress riser.

About this product

Nexa3D xFLEX475-Black is a single-component, low-viscosity LSPc photopolymer developed with Henkel LOCTITE that cures to a soft, rubber-like elastomer — 44 Shore A with 150% elongation at break — for seals, gaskets, grips and midsoles printed on XiP, XiP Pro and NXE 400/400Pro.

Why engineers choose xFLEX475-Black

Measured values from the xFLEX475-Black technical data sheet — not the wider family marketing range.

44 Shore A, genuinely rubber-like

Shore hardness of 44 A (ASTM D2240) on a 3.7 MPa tensile modulus puts parts in true elastomer territory — they flex under thumb pressure and return to shape.

150% elongation at break

Ultimate tensile strength of 2.5 MPa at 150% elongation (ASTM D638/D412) lets seals and lattice struts stretch far past their working range before failure.

47% energy return, 7.3 kN/m tear

Rebound resilience per ASTM D2632 and tear strength per ASTM D624 give the snap-back and tear resistance that repeated assembly and demoulding cycles demand.

Low-viscosity single component

Processes at room temperature with no mixing or heating, and resists most solvents — practical for shop-floor fixtures and fluid-handling mock-ups.

How xFLEX475-Black is processed

The elastomer workflow differs from rigid resins — the water post-cure is not optional.

Step 01
Print at room temperature

Shake the bottle, pour slowly into the vat and wait for a bubble-free surface, then run the validated LSPc profile on XiP, XiP Pro or NXE 400/400Pro.

Step 02
Wash xClean, then brief IPA

Wash in xClean followed by IPA. Do not submerge parts in IPA for more than 5 minutes — longer soaks swell the cured elastomer and cost you dimensional accuracy.

Step 03
Post-cure submerged in water

Apply a mould release and cure the part fully submerged in a transparent water container: 2 × 30 min in XiP Cure, 1 × 60 min in xCure, or 2 × 10 min at 100% in xCure Desktop.

What is Nexa3D xFLEX475-Black and how soft is it?
xFLEX475-Black is a single-component, low-viscosity LSPc photopolymer, developed with Henkel LOCTITE, that cures to a soft rubber-like elastomer. It measures 44 Shore A on ASTM D2240 with a tensile modulus of 3.7 MPa, so parts flex under thumb pressure and return to shape rather than behaving like a stiff plastic. Nexa3D marketing quotes a wider 50-60 Shore A range across the xFLEX475 family; the measured value on the Black grade data sheet is 44 Shore A, and that is the number we publish. Supplied in 5 kg bottles.
Which printers run xFLEX475-Black?
xFLEX475-Black runs on Nexa3D LSPc resin systems: the XiP and XiP Pro desktop printers and the NXE 400 and NXE 400Pro production platforms. Every bottle ships with the validated LSPc print profile for your machine, so exposure and lift settings are set before the first build. Process xFLEX475 at room temperature - shake the bottle, pour slowly into the vat, and wait until the surface is free of bubbles before starting a job. Wash and post-cure equipment (xClean, XiP Cure, xCure or xCure Desktop) is required and sold separately.
What are the mechanical properties of xFLEX475-Black?
From the xFLEX475-Black data sheet: tensile modulus 3.7 MPa (ASTM D638), ultimate tensile strength at break 2.5 MPa (2.48 plus/minus 0.3), elongation at break 150% (plus/minus 6.7), Shore hardness 44 A (ASTM D2240), energy return 47% (ASTM D2632) and tear strength 7.3 kN/m (plus/minus 0.7, ASTM D624). Water absorption is 3.2% at 24 hours and 5.4% at 72 hours (ASTM D570). xFLEX475 also resists most solvents. Values are typical, measured on properly washed and water post-cured specimens; your results depend on geometry, orientation and cure discipline.
How do you post-cure xFLEX475-Black?
xFLEX475-Black is post-cured submerged in water, not in air. Apply a mould release to the washed part, place it in a transparent water container, and cure it fully submerged - the water suppresses the oxygen inhibition that otherwise leaves elastomeric surfaces tacky. Cure profiles are 2 x 30 minutes in XiP Cure, 1 x 60 minutes in xCure, or 2 x 10 minutes at 100% in xCure Desktop. Skipping the water step or under-curing costs you tear strength and energy return, so treat the cure schedule for xFLEX475 as part of the spec, not a finishing option.
Why must IPA soaking stay under 5 minutes?
Wash xFLEX475-Black parts in xClean first, then finish in IPA - and do not submerge them in IPA for more than 5 minutes. Extended IPA soaks swell the cured elastomer, leach out unreacted components and leave parts soft, distorted and dimensionally off once they dry. Thin seals, gaskets and lattice struts are the first to suffer. Keep the IPA stage short, blow the parts dry, then move straight to the submerged water post-cure. If a part comes out sticky, the fix is a longer cure, not a longer wash.
What are typical applications for xFLEX475-Black?
xFLEX475-Black suits parts that have to bend, seal or absorb energy: seals and gaskets, handles and grips, pipes and manifolds, footwear and sportswear midsoles, lattice and cushioning structures, and elastomeric functional prototypes or rubber-like production parts. The combination of 150% elongation, 47% energy return and 7.3 kN/m tear strength means parts survive repeated assembly and demoulding cycles rather than tearing at the first stress riser. Solvent resistance widens its use on shop-floor fixtures and fluid-handling mock-ups, and the Black grade hides witness lines on presentation parts.
Can I order a sample or buy xFLEX475-Black in volume?
Yes. xFLEX475-Black is offered in 5 kg bottles and available on request (not in stock). For evaluation we can quote a sample print in xFLEX475 from your STL, so you can check hardness, rebound and tear behaviour on your own geometry before committing to a bottle. Ordering 10 L or more, or need an official purchase order? Our materials desk handles volume pricing, POs and scheduled release orders. Nexa3D LSPc resins are supported in the US by Additive Plus.
