What your metrology engineer actually checks

What your metrology engineer actually checks

Traceable accuracy, inspection on board

Up to 0.02 + 0.015 mm/m with VPG, tested to VDI/VDE 2634 Part 3 and ISO 10360 in an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited lab — and the PTB-certified inspection runs on the scanner itself, so the deviation report is traceable at the part.

An applications engineer on the line

Sample measurement of your actual parts, on-scanner inspection setup, and export into PolyWorks or Geomagic — from engineers who run these systems. Demo before you commit. Sub-4h reply, NDA standard.

About this product

The Shining 3D FreeScan Omni is a standalone, inspection-ready wireless laser 3D scanner — the first to run the full scan-to-inspect workflow on the device itself. An on-board 5.5-inch touchscreen and a built-in PTB-certified inspection module let you scan a part and check it against CAD right on the shop floor, at up to 0.02 + 0.015 mm/m volumetric accuracy, no PC required.

Scan and inspect against CAD directly on the device — no laptop.

Why quality teams choose the FreeScan Omni

The lab in your hand — metrology capture and inspection on one wireless device.

Scan and inspect on-device

A built-in SHINING3D Inspect module, PTB-certified and running on a 5.5-inch touchscreen, delivers a full scan-to-inspect workflow with no external PC — a pass/fail against CAD where the part is.

Certified, traceable accuracy

Up to 0.02 + 0.015 mm/m volumetric accuracy with VPG, tested to VDI/VDE 2634 Part 3 and ISO 10360 in an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited lab — audit-ready numbers, not marketing estimates.

Dual light, 93 laser lines

Blue laser plus IR VCSEL, with 93 lines at 7,619,000 points/s for speed, 25 lines for detail, and a single line for deep pockets — one scanner for fine features and large surfaces.

Markerless VPG + AI

Patented video photogrammetry tracks the part without coded targets, and AI feature recognition picks out holes and slots automatically — less setup, faster from scan to report.

How Additive Plus delivers your FreeScan Omni

Verified, trained, and supported for a QC workflow.

Step 01
Verify & certify

Each unit is checked against its calibration artifacts and accuracy confirmed before shipment, so it meets its stated spec when it reaches your floor.

Step 02
Install & train

Onboarding on the on-scanner inspection workflow, VPG scan strategy, and export into PolyWorks, Geomagic, or SHINING3D Inspect — your team is inspecting parts on the first job.

Step 03
Sample scan & support

Send us a representative part and we measure it first, so you see FreeScan Omni data on your geometry before you commit. Post-sale support with a sub-4h reply.

Metrology Performance

The FreeScan Omni reaches 0.02 + 0.03 mm/m volumetric accuracy, or 0.02 + 0.015 mm/m with video photogrammetry, at a resolution of 0.01 to 10 mm. Ninety-three blue-laser lines capture at 7,619,000 points/s, with a 25-line detail mode and a single line for deep pockets, while the IR VCSEL extends the field of view to 1205 × 1104 mm for large surfaces. Accuracy is verified in an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited lab to VDI/VDE 2634 Part 3 and ISO 10360. See the full specification table below.

Standalone On-Scanner Inspection

Where most scanners stop at capture, the FreeScan Omni completes the loop on the device. Its edge computing module and 5.5-inch touchscreen run the SHINING3D Inspect module directly, so an operator scans a part and sees deviation against CAD without carrying data to a workstation. At 1.1 kg and fully wireless, with hot-swappable batteries, it takes inspection to the part — on the production floor, in a hangar, or at a fabrication site.

Software & Workflow

On-device inspection runs through SHINING3D Inspect, and full data exports to established metrology packages including PolyWorks Inspector, Geomagic Control X, and Geomagic Design X. Output includes 3D mesh in STL, OBJ, PLY, and ASC plus inspection reports and color deviation maps, supporting deviation analysis, GD&T, and first-article reporting. The FreeScan Omni Lite offers the same capture with modular inspection upgrades you can add later.

Common questions

Don't see yours? Email [email protected] — NDA standard, typical reply within 4 hours.

What accuracy does the FreeScan Omni achieve, and is it certified?
The FreeScan Omni reaches 0.02 + 0.03 mm/m volumetric accuracy, or 0.02 + 0.015 mm/m with video photogrammetry. Those figures are verified in an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited lab to VDI/VDE 2634 Part 3 and ISO 10360, and the on-board inspection module is PTB-certified, so results are traceable. We can measure a representative part for you before purchase.
What does 'inspection-ready' or on-scanner inspection mean?
The FreeScan Omni runs the full scan-to-inspect workflow on the device — its edge computing module and 5.5-inch touchscreen host the SHINING3D Inspect module, so you scan a part and see deviation against CAD without moving data to a PC. That means a pass or fail decision at the part on the shop floor, not a round trip to a metrology room. It is the first standalone inspection-ready scanner in the FreeScan line.
What is the difference between the FreeScan Omni and Omni Lite?
Both share the same metrology-grade capture. The flagship FreeScan Omni includes the full on-device scan-to-inspect workflow, VPG, and AI feature recognition out of the box. The FreeScan Omni Lite provides the base scanning capability with optional modular inspection upgrades you can add later, so you can start lighter and grow into full on-scanner inspection. We help you pick based on your inspection needs and budget.
Is the FreeScan Omni fully wireless, and how long does the battery last?
Yes. The FreeScan Omni is fully wireless with a wired option, and at 1.1 kg it is comfortable to hold through an inspection. It uses hot-swappable rechargeable batteries — a set runs about an hour and the kit includes eight so you keep working without downtime. A dock combines power and Wi-Fi in one unit for the bench, so setup between jobs is quick.
What is VPG, and what does AI feature recognition do?
VPG is Shining 3D's patented video photogrammetry, which lets the FreeScan Omni track a part markerless — no coded targets on the surface. AI feature recognition then detects features such as holes and slots automatically during scanning, which speeds up the move from scan to inspection report. Together they cut setup time and manual work, so an operator gets to a result faster.
What software and file formats does it work with?
On-device inspection runs through SHINING3D Inspect, and full data exports to PolyWorks Inspector, Geomagic Control X, and Geomagic Design X. Output includes 3D mesh in STL, OBJ, PLY, and ASC, plus inspection reports and color deviation maps. That supports deviation analysis, GD&T, and first-article reporting in your existing pipeline. We configure the export path during onboarding.
What part sizes and surfaces does it handle?
The FreeScan Omni suits small to large parts: the laser field of view is 580 × 650 mm and the IR VCSEL extends to 1205 × 1104 mm for big surfaces, with a working distance around 830 mm. It captures most machined, cast, composite, and painted surfaces markerless; mirror-finish or highly polished surfaces may need a light matting agent. Tell us your parts and finish and we will confirm what to expect.
