About this product

The Shining 3D FreeScan Trak ProW is a wireless dynamic-tracking metrology system built for the largest parts. A single station covers a 206.7 m³ measuring volume with tracking up to 8.6 m, measuring markerless via patented video photogrammetry (VPG) at 0.023 mm single-point accuracy — verified in an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited lab.

Why metrology teams choose the FreeScan Trak ProW

Whole large assemblies measured from one station, markerless, to standard.

Ultra-wide single-station volume

A 206.7 m³ measuring volume and 8.6 m tracking range let you capture a full aircraft panel, wind blade section, or large tool from one setup — fewer station moves, fewer alignment errors.

Certified, traceable accuracy

0.023 mm single-point accuracy and 0.044 + 0.012 mm/m with VPG, tested to VDI/VDE 2634 Part 3 and ISO 10360 in an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited lab — audit-ready numbers.

Markerless with VPG

Integrated video photogrammetry tracks the part without coded targets on the surface. Fifty laser lines run at 5,500,000 points/s; drop to 7 or 1 line for fine detail and deep pockets.

FreeProbe-ready, wireless

Add the optional FreeProbe for hard-to-reach reference points and hidden features. The system runs wireless, with a wired fiber-optic option and power-bank support for the field.

Metrology Performance

The FreeScan Trak ProW reaches 0.023 mm single-point accuracy and 0.044 + 0.012 mm/m volumetric accuracy with VPG, with resolution from 0.01 to 10 mm. Volumetric accuracy scales with volume — 0.046 mm at 15.6 m³ up to 0.127 mm at 128 m³ — and fifty crossed laser lines capture at 5,500,000 points/s. Accuracy is verified in an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited lab to VDI/VDE 2634 Part 3 and ISO 10360. See the full specification table below.

Ultra-Wide Tracking & Working Range

The FreeTrak W optical tracker follows the scanner across a 206.7 m³ single-station volume with dynamic tracking to 8.6 m — the widest in the FreeScan Trak line. That means fewer station relocations on very large parts and fewer accumulated alignment errors. The TE25W scanner head weighs 1.4 kg, the tracker unit 10.6 kg, and the whole system is wireless with a wired fiber-optic option for maximum data rate.

Software & Workflow

Data flows into SHINING3D Inspect, EXModel Pro, and BlueStar Mapping, and exports to established metrology packages including PolyWorks Inspector, Geomagic Control X, and Geomagic Design X. Output in STL, OBJ, PLY, and ASC supports deviation analysis, GD&T, and first-article reporting. The optional FreeProbe adds tactile measurement of reference points and features the scanner cannot see directly.

Common questions

Don't see yours? Email [email protected] — NDA standard, typical reply within 4 hours.

What accuracy does the FreeScan Trak ProW achieve, and is it certified?
The FreeScan Trak ProW reaches 0.023 mm single-point accuracy and 0.044 + 0.012 mm/m volumetric accuracy with VPG. Volumetric accuracy scales with the measured volume, from 0.046 mm at 15.6 m³ to 0.127 mm at 128 m³. Those figures are verified in an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited lab to VDI/VDE 2634 Part 3 and ISO 10360, so they stand up to QC sign-off and audit. We can measure a representative part for you before purchase.
How large a part can the Trak ProW measure in one setup?
The FreeScan Trak ProW covers a 206.7 m³ single-station measuring volume with dynamic tracking up to 8.6 m — the widest in the FreeScan Trak line. That lets you capture a full aircraft panel, wind-blade section, or large tool from one station, reducing relocations and the alignment errors they introduce. For very large structures you can still combine stations, and our engineers help plan the layout.
What is VPG, and do I need markers?
VPG is Shining 3D's patented video photogrammetry, which lets the FreeScan Trak ProW track a part dynamically without coded targets stuck to the surface. For most parts you scan markerless, which removes setup time and marker residue on large structures. Reference points can still be used where geometry is featureless, and our engineers help set the right strategy for your parts.
What is the difference between the Trak ProW and the Trak Nova?
Both are wireless dynamic-tracking systems using VPG. The FreeScan Trak ProW is the large-volume system — 206.7 m³ single-station volume, 8.6 m tracking, and 0.023 mm point accuracy — for aircraft, wind, ship, and large-tooling work. The lighter FreeScan Trak Nova covers up to 50 m³ with 3.5 m tracking and is more portable for smaller parts. We help you choose based on your typical part size and access.
What is FreeProbe, and do I need it?
FreeProbe is an optional tactile probe compatible with the FreeScan Trak ProW. It measures reference points, hidden features, and hard-to-reach geometry the scanner cannot see optically — for example deep bores or points behind flanges. Many large-part jobs are handled by the scanner alone; add FreeProbe when your inspection plan includes features that need a physical touch point. We can quote it with the system.
What metrology software does it work with?
The FreeScan Trak ProW runs SHINING3D Inspect, EXModel Pro, and BlueStar Mapping, and exports to established metrology packages including PolyWorks Inspector, Geomagic Control X, and Geomagic Design X. Output in STL, OBJ, PLY, and ASC supports deviation analysis, GD&T, and first-article reporting. We configure the export path into your existing inspection software during onboarding.
Is the Trak ProW wireless and usable in the field?
Yes. The FreeScan Trak ProW runs wireless, supports power-bank operation, and offers a wired fiber-optic connection when you need the highest data rate. That makes it practical on a shop floor, in a hangar, or at a large fabrication site, not just in a metrology room. The TE25W scanner head is 1.4 kg, so an operator can work comfortably while the tracker follows from a stand.
