About this product

The Shining 3D OptimScan-5M Plus is a stationary, blue-light structured-light metrology scanner that pairs two 5 MP industrial cameras with a 1080P DLP projector to capture small, high-value parts at up to 0.005 mm single-shot accuracy, with accuracy certification to VDI/VDE 2634 Part 3 from Shining 3D’s ISO 17025-certified lab.

Shining 3D OptimScan-5M Plus stationary structured-light metrology scanner
The OptimScan-5M Plus is a fixed scanner, mounted in a stable position for repeatable benchtop and shop-floor metrology.

Why metrology teams choose the OptimScan-5M Plus

Single-shot accuracy down to 0.005 mm on small, high-value parts.

Accuracy down to 0.005 mm

Single-shot accuracy down to 0.005 mm and point distance to 0.04 mm (5M Plus-100), with VDI/VDE 2634 Part 3 accuracy certification from Shining 3D’s ISO 17025-certified lab and built-in environmental vibration detection.

Three lens configurations, one system

Interchangeable 100/200/400 optics trade scan area for resolution: 100 × 75 mm at 0.04 mm point distance up to 400 × 300 mm at 0.16 mm — one system covers small precision parts through mid-size assemblies.

Automatic marker alignment + GREC control

One-click marker alignment and the GREC global-deviation-control module minimize cumulative error across multi-scan datasets; built-in environmental vibration detection flags an unstable setup before it corrupts a scan.

HDR for high-contrast parts

Narrow-band blue LED structured light with an HDR function for high-contrast objects such as black-and-white surfaces; Shining 3D has published a smartphone glass-panel inspection case with this scanner. No color camera — built for dimensional geometry.

Scanning Performance

The OptimScan-5M Plus pairs two 5 MP industrial cameras with a 1080P blue-LED DLP projector across three interchangeable lens configurations. The -100 lens resolves 0.04 mm point distance and 0.005 mm single-shot accuracy over a 100 × 75 mm field; the -200 lens covers 200 × 150 mm at 0.08 mm point distance and 0.01 mm accuracy; the -400 lens extends to 400 × 300 mm at 0.16 mm point distance and 0.015 mm accuracy. Each scan completes in 1.5 seconds or less, and the one-click automatic marker alignment and GREC global deviation control modules reduce alignment errors across multi-scan datasets. See full specifications below.

Two 5 MP cameras and a 1080P blue-LED DLP projector drive accuracy across all three lens configurations.

Working Range & Portability

Working distance is fixed at 560 mm across all three lens configurations, with the system mounted in a stable position for benchtop or shop-floor use — this is a stationary metrology scanner, not a handheld device. At 6.8 kg and 435 × 300 × 200 mm, it stays compact enough to move between inspection stations but remains tethered to a workstation over USB 3.0; there is no battery or wireless mode. Operating range is 0–40 °C and 10–90% RH.

Software & Workflow

OptimScan software is included with no subscription and runs the workflow — calibration, scanning, data editing, and AI data cleanup — exporting .asc, .stl, .obj and more. Shining 3D lists Geomagic Design X, PolyWorks, Geomagic Control X, and BlueStar Mapping as compatible software. Shining 3D’s recommended PC: Windows 10/11 Pro 64-bit, Intel Core i7-11700 or above, 32 GB RAM or more, NVIDIA RTX 3060 or above with 6 GB+ VRAM, and a USB 3.0 port. The system does not capture full-color texture — it is built for dimensional geometry, not documentation scans.

Common questions

Don't see yours? Email [email protected] — NDA on request, typical reply within 4 hours.

What accuracy can I expect from the OptimScan-5M Plus on a small precision part?
With the 5M Plus-100 lens, the OptimScan-5M Plus has single-shot accuracy of 0.005 mm and 0.04 mm point distance over a 100 × 75 mm field. The -200 and -400 lenses trade some accuracy (0.01 mm and 0.015 mm) for a larger 200 × 150 mm or 400 × 300 mm field. Accuracy certification is to VDI/VDE 2634 Part 3 in Shining 3D’s ISO 17025-certified lab. This is a stationary system for small-to-mid parts; larger parts are covered by aligning multiple scans with the automatic marker alignment and GREC modules.
Does the OptimScan-5M Plus need a controlled lighting environment?
Shining 3D positions the OptimScan-5M Plus as a fixed scanner for repetitive, high-precision scanning of smaller parts in controlled environments. The specified operating range is 0–40 °C and 10–90% RH, and the scanner’s environmental vibration detection helps ensure data quality.
Which CAD and QC software does the OptimScan-5M Plus export to?
The OptimScan-5M Plus exports .asc, .stl, .obj, and other formats compatible with mainstream 3D software. Shining 3D lists Geomagic Design X, PolyWorks, Geomagic Control X, and BlueStar Mapping as compatible. OptimScan software handles calibration, scanning, data editing, and AI data cleanup. Our applications engineer can help set up the export path into your CAD or metrology workflow.
Can it scan dark, high-contrast, or glass parts?
The OptimScan-5M Plus has an HDR function that helps scan high-contrast objects, such as black-and-white surfaces, to obtain complete data, and Shining 3D has published a smartphone glass-panel inspection case with this scanner. Very dark, mirror-finish, or transparent surfaces may still need a light matting agent. Tell us your material and finish and our applications engineer will advise.
How do the three lens configurations (100/200/400) differ?
The OptimScan-5M Plus comes in three lens configurations that trade scan area for point distance. 5M Plus-100: 100 × 75 mm field, 0.04 mm point distance, 0.005 mm single-shot accuracy. 5M Plus-200: 200 × 150 mm, 0.08 mm, 0.01 mm. 5M Plus-400: 400 × 300 mm, 0.16 mm, 0.015 mm. Working distance is 560 mm for all three; tell us your part size and target accuracy and our applications engineer will recommend the configuration.
How is the OptimScan-5M Plus calibrated?
Shining 3D calibrates its scanners using certified artifacts or calibration panels traceable to metrology standards, and all calibration and verification procedures are performed in its accredited Accuracy Lab (ISO/IEC 17025). The OptimScan software guides you through calibration step by step, and environmental vibration detection flags an unstable setup. If needed, Shining 3D’s global calibration centers offer recertification.
Is the OptimScan-5M Plus battery-powered or wireless?
No — the OptimScan-5M Plus is a stationary, tethered system connected to a workstation over USB 3.0; it has no battery and no wireless mode. Shining 3D recommends Windows 10/11 Pro 64-bit, an Intel Core i7-11700 or above, 32 GB RAM or more, and an NVIDIA RTX 3060 or above with 6 GB+ VRAM. If you need a handheld metrology scanner instead, ask us about the FreeScan Combo; for manual, turntable or robot-integrated inspection, see the OptimScan Q12/Q9.
