Contamination stopped at the source
Oils, oxides and particulates on wire or rod raise oxygen and inclusions in the finished powder. ATO Wipe removes them before melting — ultrasonic cavitation plus mechanical brushing, deeper than a solvent wipe alone.

ATO Wipe installs directly upstream of atomization and pairs with ATO Lab, ATO Sparq and the single- and multi-rod feeding systems. Feedstock cleaning, atomization, powder cleaning and sieving — one integrated chain.

What the ATO Wipe is
The ATO Wipe is a compact ultrasonic wire and rod cleaning system from 3D Lab. It prepares feedstock for ultrasonic atomization: whatever sits on the surface of a wire or rod goes into the melt and ends up in the powder, so the ATO Wipe removes it first.
It combines ultrasonic cleaning with a set of brushes. Wire is cleaned on spools with precision positioning, and a dedicated rod mode cleans rods for the Single Rod Feeding System. The operator selects the cleaned length or weight, and the ATO Wipe runs in automatic or manual mode, supervised by integrated safety systems and sensors. It is designed to work with the ATO series atomizers, the ATO Lab in particular.

3D Lab does not publish wire or rod diameters, dimensions or cleaning speed for the ATO Wipe; we state them in the quotation for your feedstock.

The ATO Wipe is the first quality gate, before any metal reaches the melt:

Melting does not remove surface contamination — it carries it into the powder. Cleaning before atomization is the step that protects powder chemistry run after run.

Where the ATO Wipe stops — and what to take instead
The ATO Wipe cleans feedstock before atomization; it does not touch the powder afterwards. To clean and dry powder, take the ATO Pure; to classify it under argon, the ATO Sieve; to clean atomizer components between alloys, the ATO Clean. Its rod mode is specified by 3D Lab for the Single Rod Feeding System; if you run the Multi Rod Feeding System, ask us before you order. And if you cast your own rods, the ATO Cast comes first in the chain.
Make your own powder, measure it, print it
With clean feedstock the rest of the loop starts from a clean melt: wipe the wire or rod, atomize it on an ATO Lab, check size distribution and sphericity on a CAMSIZER X2+, and print on an AO Metal LPBF printer. The atomizer, analyzer and printer are also offered together as the R&D Bundle.
