What your process engineer actually checks
Locked, traceable lot chemistry
Every lot ships with a COA documenting PSD, sphericity, flow rate, apparent density, and full chemistry — and a lot number you can trace. Aerospace and medical teams reorder 4+ times without re-qualifying.
A materials engineer on the line
Questions on ferrite content, flowability, recyclate ratios, or HIP response? A materials engineer answers directly — not a contact-form bot. Most replies in under 4 hours, NDA standard.
PowderRange® M300 is an age-hardenable martensitic maraging tool steel (1.2709) with exceptional tensile strength and hardness for laser powder bed fusion (LPBF), EBM and DED. It is easily heat treated, reaching its superior properties after a simple age-hardening step.
High-carbon tool steels such as H13 or M2 are difficult to process by LPBF; M300 offers comparable mechanical performance with proven additive-manufacturing suitability, thanks to tight control of residual alloying elements.
Why teams buy this powder from Additive Plus
- Genuine Carpenter PowderRange® M300 — vacuum-induction melted, nitrogen gas-atomized for high sphericity and consistent flow.
- Available in small, workable volumes. Most mills sell large minimums and hide pricing behind an account. We stock this alloy and sell it in accessible quantities at a clear, published price.
- Full COA with every lot — particle size distribution, chemistry, apparent density and flow rate, with a traceable lot number.
- Fast dispatch from Los Angeles.
- Need a custom alloy or a tighter cut? We also run our own atomization in-house and can produce custom small-batch powder on request — separate from this stocked product.
Standards & equivalents
- Applicable specification: ASTM A646
- Equivalents / alternate names: Maraging Steel · 18Ni-300 · 1.2709 · X3NiCoMoTi-18-9-5 · LaserForm Maraging Steel

Chemical composition
Typical chemistry (wt%), per the Carpenter PowderRange® datasheet:
| Element | Content | Element | Content |
|---|---|---|---|
| Iron (Fe) | Balance | Chromium (Cr) | ≤ 0.25% |
| Nickel (Ni) | 17.0–19.0% | Manganese (Mn) | ≤ 0.15% |
| Cobalt (Co) | 8.50–10.0% | Silicon (Si) | ≤ 0.10% |
| Molybdenum (Mo) | 4.50–5.20% | Carbon (C) | ≤ 0.030% |

| Phosphorus (P) | ≤ 0.010% | Sulfur (S) | ≤ 0.010% |
Heat treatment & processing
- Age-hardenable — a simple, single low-temperature age-hardening step develops the high strength and hardness (no complex quench required).
- Excellent additive-manufacturing suitability with low distortion, unlike high-carbon tool steels.
- Readily machined in the solution-annealed condition, then aged to final hardness.
Key performance benefits
- Exceptional tensile strength and hardness
- Heat resistant to ~900°F
- High hardness and wear resistance
- Proven, low-distortion processability in LPBF (vs. H13 / M2)
Typical applications
- Tool inserts for molding and casting
- Tire sipes and molds
- Conformal-cooling tooling
- Hard-wearing functional components

Unedited feedback from customers who reorder M300 Maraging Steel Powder for Metal 3D Printing | LPBF Compatible - 10 kg / 22 lbs.
Same lot 4 times in a row. We stopped re-running parameter sweeps after the second order — density was identical to the first build.
Asked about ferrite content on a Friday. A materials engineer answered Monday morning with actual data, not a sales pitch. That's why we keep ordering.
COA matches the bottle. PSD and flow are exactly what was on the sheet — we run it on a Renishaw 500Q and it hits density on the first try.
