What your safety officer actually checks

Certified for combustible dust, honestly matched

The Mistral 451 BL D2 is built to the ATEX D2 standard for Zone 22 dust areas, with conductive, grounded construction and an antistatic Class M filter so static cannot build up around ignition-sensitive powder. It is the unit for combustible process dust and non-reactive metal powder such as stainless and nickel. For reactive metals — aluminium, titanium, magnesium — we point you to the inert immersion unit instead of overselling a dry ATEX vacuum.

An applications engineer on the line

Questions on ATEX classification, whether the D2 suits your alloy, or grounding and handling for combustible powder? A named applications engineer answers directly — most replies under 4 hours, NDA standard. We run powder handling in our own California shop.

About this product

The Delfin Mistral 451 BL D2 is an ATEX-certified industrial vacuum for the safe capture of combustible dust and non-reactive metal powder. Built to the D2 dust standard for use in Zone 22 (dust) areas, it uses conductive, grounded construction and an antistatic Class M filter so static cannot build up around ignition-sensitive powder. A 2 kW motor moves 211.9 CFM at 90.1 inH₂O through a 3-inch inlet into a 12-gallon container. It is the unit for stainless, nickel and other non-reactive AM powders and combustible process dust — for reactive metals such as aluminium and titanium, use the inert immersion unit instead.

Why teams choose the Mistral 451 BL D2

What a safety officer checks before a vacuum touches combustible powder.

ATEX-certified for combustible dust

Built to the D2 dust standard for Zone 22 areas, so it can be used where combustible dust is present — the compliance basis a safety audit requires.

Antistatic, grounded construction

Conductive components and an antistatic Class M filter (IEC 60335-2-69) bleed off static charge, so it cannot accumulate around ignition-sensitive powder.

211.9 CFM through a 3-in inlet

A 2 kW motor and 90.1 inH₂O of lift move settled metal powder and combustible dust efficiently through a wide 3-inch inlet.

12-gallon container, mobile

A 22 ft² Class M star filter holds suction, and the 12-gallon container on casters moves to the machine. Single-phase, 76 dB(A).

Match the vacuum to your powder

ATEX certification is only right if it matches your dust — and your metal.

Use it for
Combustible & non-reactive powder

Combustible process dust and non-reactive metal powder — stainless, nickel and similar alloys — in ATEX Zone 22 areas.

Don’t use it for
Reactive metals

Aluminium, titanium and magnesium react with air and moisture — those need the inert immersion-separation unit, not a dry ATEX vacuum. See below.

Not sure the Mistral 451 BL D2 is the right unit?

Reactive metals, a smaller ATEX unit, or high-volume non-ATEX pickup.

Tell us the alloy, particle size and dust classification — an applications engineer confirms whether the D2 unit is compliant for your powder, or routes you to the inert Mistral for reactive metals. Typical reply under 24 hours, NDA standard.

Why source through Additive Plus

Grounded, antistatic, and it actually moves powder through the 3-inch hose. Does the job without cutting corners on safety.

Additive Plus checked our alloy first and confirmed the D2 was right — and flagged that our titanium line needed the inert unit instead.

What is the Mistral 451 BL D2 designed for?
The Mistral 451 BL D2 is an ATEX-certified industrial vacuum for the safe capture of combustible dust and non-reactive metal powder, such as stainless steel and nickel alloys used in additive manufacturing. It is built to the D2 dust standard for use in Zone 22 areas, with antistatic, grounded construction. It is not intended for reactive metals like aluminum or titanium — those require the inert immersion-separation Mistral. Send us your material and an engineer will confirm the right unit.
What does the ATEX D2 certification mean?
ATEX is the European framework for equipment used in potentially explosive atmospheres. The D2 designation covers combustible-dust duty in Zone 22 areas, where a combustible dust cloud is unlikely in normal operation but may occur briefly. In practice that means the Mistral 451 BL D2 is constructed to avoid becoming an ignition source around combustible dust — conductive, grounded parts and an antistatic filter. Additive Plus can supply the ATEX documentation your safety audit needs on request.
Can it be used for reactive metals like aluminum or titanium?
No. The Mistral 451 BL D2 is a dry ATEX vacuum for combustible dust and non-reactive metal powder. Reactive metal powders — aluminum, titanium, magnesium — can react with air and moisture and must be collected with an inert immersion-separation vacuum, which captures the powder under liquid. Additive Plus carries the Delfin Mistral 451 inert unit for exactly that. If you are unsure whether your alloy is reactive, contact us with the details before selecting a unit.
How does it prevent static and ignition?
The Mistral 451 BL D2 uses conductive, grounded construction throughout and an antistatic filter rated to IEC 60335-2-69, Class M. Together these bleed off electrostatic charge so it cannot accumulate on the machine, the filter or the collected powder — which is the mechanism that could otherwise ignite a combustible dust cloud. This is why an ATEX-rated unit, rather than a standard vacuum, is required for combustible dust; the certification confirms the design meets that standard.
What is the suction and container capacity?
The Mistral 451 BL D2 runs a 2 kW motor delivering 211.9 CFM (360 m³/h) of airflow at 90.1 in of water lift through a 3-inch inlet, into a 12-gallon container. A 22 ft² antistatic Class M star filter keeps suction steady as powder loads up. That combination is sized to move settled metal powder and combustible dust efficiently while keeping the airflow and filtration within the ATEX-rated design. Measured noise is 76 dB(A) per EN ISO 3744.
Can Additive Plus supply the ATEX documentation?
Yes. Additive Plus can supply the ATEX documentation for the Mistral 451 BL D2 on request, which is what an EHS team or safety auditor needs to justify the unit for a Zone 22 combustible-dust area. We can also help you classify your dust and advise on grounding and handling practices around the machine. Ask us when you order and we will include the relevant paperwork with the unit.
How does the D2 differ from the inert Mistral?
Both are metal-safe Delfin vacuums, but for different hazards. The Mistral 451 BL D2 is a dry ATEX vacuum for combustible dust and non-reactive metal powder, using antistatic construction to avoid ignition. The Mistral 451 inert captures reactive metal powder — aluminum, titanium — under liquid by immersion separation, so the powder is never exposed to air. Choose the D2 for non-reactive/combustible dust and the inert for reactive metals; an Additive Plus engineer can confirm which your alloy needs.
