What the particles look like
From the manufacturer datasheet

SEM image of typical PowderRange 316L powder, from the Carpenter Additive datasheet. Spherical, nitrogen gas-atomized particles; scale bar 100 µm.
Each order ships with the Carpenter Additive certificate of analysis for its lot: chemistry, particle size distribution (D10/D50/D90) and density. Ask us if you need to see a recent certificate before ordering.

Heat treatment
Carpenter datasheet, process guidance
- Stress relief per AMS2759: 371 °C (700 °F), 1 hour.
- Solution anneal for better corrosion resistance: 1038 °C (1900 °F), 1 hour per 3 in of thickness, water quench.
- HIP to close porosity: 100 MPa at about 1141 °C for 240 minutes in argon, then solution anneal.
- 316L does not age-harden; it is often used as-built or after stress relief.

Will it run on my printer?
The 45–106 µm E cut is made for electron-beam powder bed fusion and powder-fed directed energy deposition. For laser powder bed fusion, use the 15–45 µm F cut listed above. Check the particle-size range your machine maker specifies.
