PowderRange® AlSi10Mg is a lightweight aluminum casting alloy for laser powder bed fusion (LPBF), ideal for parts that need low weight, complex geometry and good thermal properties. The silicon-magnesium chemistry gives increased strength and hardness, while keeping the part easy to finish — it can be spark-eroded, welded, micro shot-peened, polished and coated.
Like cast AlSi10Mg, printed parts can be heat-treated (for example a T6 cycle of solution annealing, quenching and age hardening) to lift mechanical properties. It also has excellent weldability in laser AM.
Why teams buy this powder from Additive Plus
- Genuine Carpenter PowderRange® AlSi10Mg — gas-atomized for high sphericity, low oxygen and consistent flow.
- Available in small, workable volumes. Most mills sell large minimums and hide pricing behind an account. We stock this alloy and sell it in accessible quantities at a clear, published price.
- Full COA with every lot — particle size distribution, chemistry, apparent density and flow rate, with a traceable lot number.
- Fast dispatch from Los Angeles.
- Need a custom alloy or a tighter cut? We also run our own atomization in-house and can produce custom small-batch powder on request — separate from this stocked product.
Standards & equivalents
- Applicable specification: AMS 7018
- Equivalents / alternate names: AlSi10Mg · A360 (near-equivalent casting alloy)
- Machine type: F — LPBF · Particle size: 20–63 µm · Bottle: 5 kg / 11 lbs
- Carpenter Part No.: 10050186
- Quality: manufactured by Carpenter Additive under AS9100, AS9120, ISO 9001 & ISO 13485 quality systems. (These certifications are Carpenter’s, covering the powder; Additive Plus resells genuine, fully traceable lots and is not itself a certified manufacturer.)
Chemical composition
Typical chemistry (wt%), per the Carpenter PowderRange® datasheet:
| Element | Content | Element | Content |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aluminum (Al) | Balance | Titanium (Ti) | ≤ 0.15% |
| Silicon (Si) | 9.00–11.00% | Zinc (Zn) | ≤ 0.10% |
| Magnesium (Mg) | 0.20–0.45% | Oxygen (O) | ≤ 0.10% |
| Iron (Fe) | ≤ 0.55% | Nickel (Ni) | ≤ 0.05% |
| Manganese (Mn) | ≤ 0.45% | Copper (Cu) | ≤ 0.05% |
| Lead / Tin | ≤ 0.05% each | Nitrogen (N) | ≤ 0.05% |
Heat treatment & processing
- Heat-treatable — a T6 cycle (solution anneal, quench, age) can be applied after the build to raise strength and hardness.
- Stress relief is commonly used to reduce residual stress before part removal.
- Easy to finish: spark-erosion, welding, micro shot-peening, polishing and coating are all compatible.
Key performance benefits
- Lightweight aluminum alloy
- High thermal conductivity
- Good corrosion resistance
- Good strength and hardness from the Si-Mg chemistry
- Excellent weldability and easy post-processing
Typical applications
- Lightweight brackets
- Valves
- RF waveguides
- Ducts
- Heat exchangers

From process engineers running Aluminum Alloy Powder AlSi10Mg | LPBF Compatible - 5 kg / 11 lbs
Unedited feedback from customers who reorder Aluminum Alloy Powder AlSi10Mg | LPBF Compatible - 5 kg / 11 lbs.
Same lot 4 times in a row. We stopped re-running parameter sweeps after the second order — density was identical to the first build.
Asked about ferrite content on a Friday. A materials engineer answered Monday morning with actual data, not a sales pitch. That's why we keep ordering.
COA matches the bottle. PSD and flow are exactly what was on the sheet — we run it on a Renishaw 500Q and it hits density on the first try.
