What your process engineer actually checks

Locked, traceable lot chemistry

Every lot ships with a COA documenting PSD, sphericity, flow rate, apparent density, and full chemistry — and a lot number you can trace. Aerospace and medical teams reorder 4+ times without re-qualifying.

Qualified parameters, not just powder

Validated parameter sets for EOS M 290, Renishaw 500Q, SLM 280, and our own AO Metal LPBF ship with the order. Load the profile and hit density on the first build — no parameter-development burn.

A materials engineer on the line

About this product

PowderRange® AlSi10Mg is a lightweight aluminum casting alloy for laser powder bed fusion (LPBF), ideal for parts that need low weight, complex geometry and good thermal properties. The silicon-magnesium chemistry gives increased strength and hardness, while keeping the part easy to finish — it can be spark-eroded, welded, micro shot-peened, polished and coated.

Like cast AlSi10Mg, printed parts can be heat-treated (for example a T6 cycle of solution annealing, quenching and age hardening) to lift mechanical properties. It also has excellent weldability in laser AM.

Why teams buy this powder from Additive Plus

  • Genuine Carpenter PowderRange® AlSi10Mg — gas-atomized for high sphericity, low oxygen and consistent flow.
  • Available in small, workable volumes. Most mills sell large minimums and hide pricing behind an account. We stock this alloy and sell it in accessible quantities at a clear, published price.
  • Full COA with every lot — particle size distribution, chemistry, apparent density and flow rate, with a traceable lot number.
  • Fast dispatch from Los Angeles.
  • Need a custom alloy or a tighter cut? We also run our own atomization in-house and can produce custom small-batch powder on request — separate from this stocked product.

Standards & equivalents

  • Applicable specification: AMS 7018
  • Equivalents / alternate names: AlSi10Mg · A360 (near-equivalent casting alloy)
  • Machine type: F — LPBF · Particle size: 20–63 µm · Bottle: 5 kg / 11 lbs
  • Quality: manufactured by Carpenter Additive under AS9100, AS9120, ISO 9001 & ISO 13485 quality systems. (These certifications are Carpenter’s, covering the powder; Additive Plus resells genuine, fully traceable lots and is not itself a certified manufacturer.)

Chemical composition

Typical chemistry (wt%), per the Carpenter PowderRange® datasheet:

Element Content Element Content
Aluminum (Al) Balance Titanium (Ti) ≤ 0.15%
Silicon (Si) 9.00–11.00% Zinc (Zn) ≤ 0.10%
Magnesium (Mg) 0.20–0.45% Oxygen (O) ≤ 0.10%
Iron (Fe) ≤ 0.55% Nickel (Ni) ≤ 0.05%
Manganese (Mn) ≤ 0.45% Copper (Cu) ≤ 0.05%
Lead / Tin ≤ 0.05% each Nitrogen (N) ≤ 0.05%

Heat treatment & processing

  • Heat-treatable — a T6 cycle (solution anneal, quench, age) can be applied after the build to raise strength and hardness.
  • Stress relief is commonly used to reduce residual stress before part removal.
  • Easy to finish: spark-erosion, welding, micro shot-peening, polishing and coating are all compatible.

Key performance benefits

  • Lightweight aluminum alloy
  • High thermal conductivity
  • Good corrosion resistance
  • Good strength and hardness from the Si-Mg chemistry
  • Excellent weldability and easy post-processing

Typical applications

  • Lightweight brackets
  • Valves
  • RF waveguides
  • Ducts
  • Heat exchangers

Same lot 4 times in a row. We stopped re-running parameter sweeps after the second order — density was identical to the first build.

Asked about ferrite content on a Friday. A materials engineer answered Monday morning with actual data, not a sales pitch. That's why we keep ordering.

COA matches the bottle. PSD and flow are exactly what was on the sheet — we run it on a Renishaw 500Q and it hits density on the first try.
