Locked, traceable lot chemistry
Every lot ships with a COA documenting PSD, sphericity, flow rate, apparent density, and full chemistry — and a lot number you can trace. Aerospace and medical teams reorder 4+ times without re-qualifying.
A materials engineer on the line
Questions on ferrite content, flowability, recyclate ratios, or HIP response? A materials engineer answers directly — not a contact-form bot. Most replies in under 4 hours, NDA standard.
AVIMETAL 316L is a low-carbon, non-magnetic austenitic stainless steel powder for laser powder bed fusion (LPBF). With added molybdenum it delivers excellent general and chloride/pitting corrosion resistance, high toughness and good ductility, plus reliable weldability — the default stainless for corrosion-critical and biocompatible parts.
Produced by AVIMETAL, a leading specialist manufacturer of additive-manufacturing metal powders with in-house liquid-metal atomization and a strong track record across medical, marine and chemical-processing applications.
Why teams buy this powder from Additive Plus
- Genuine AVIMETAL 316L — gas-atomized for high sphericity, low oxygen and consistent flow.
- A strong value alternative to premium Western powders, at an accessible, published price.
- Available in small, workable volumes — no large mill minimums.
- Full COA with every lot — PSD, chemistry, apparent density and flow rate, with a traceable lot number.
- Fast dispatch from Los Angeles. Custom alloys / cuts via our own in-house atomization.
Standards & equivalents
- Made to the 316L specification: ASTM F3184 · UNS S31603 · 1.4404 · AISI 316L
- Machine type: F — LPBF · Particle size: 15–45 µm (custom cuts available) · Bottle: 10 kg / 22 lbs
- Quality: gas-atomized on dedicated AVIMETAL lines for high sphericity and low oxygen; full COA per lot.
Chemical composition
Typical chemistry (wt%) for 316L:
| Element | Content | Element | Content |
|---|---|---|---|
| Iron (Fe) | Balance | Manganese (Mn) | ≤ 2.00% |
| Chromium (Cr) | 16.0–18.0% | Silicon (Si) | ≤ 1.00% |
| Nickel (Ni) | 10.0–14.0% | Nitrogen (N) | ≤ 0.10% |
| Molybdenum (Mo) | 2.00–3.00% | Carbon (C) | ≤ 0.030% |
| Phosphorus (P) | ≤ 0.045% | Sulfur (S) | ≤ 0.030% |
Heat treatment & processing
- 316L cannot be precipitation hardened — properties come from the as-built austenitic microstructure.
- Solution annealing is optional and application-specific; it can improve corrosion resistance.
- Excellent weldability; can be processed under argon or nitrogen shielding gas.
Key performance benefits

Unedited feedback from customers who reorder SS316L Steel Powder for Metal 3D Printing | LPBF Compatible - 10 kg / 22 lbs.
Same lot 4 times in a row. We stopped re-running parameter sweeps after the second order — density was identical to the first build.
Asked about ferrite content on a Friday. A materials engineer answered Monday morning with actual data, not a sales pitch. That's why we keep ordering.
COA matches the bottle. PSD and flow are exactly what was on the sheet — we run it on a Renishaw 500Q and it hits density on the first try.
