What is CNPC Powder Scalmalloy® aluminum powder?
CNPC Powder Scalmalloy® aluminum powder is a high-strength aluminum-magnesium-scandium alloy developed by APWORKS (Airbus Group), with high strength and crack resistance at low density, corrosion resistance and suitability for anodizing. It is a 20–63 µm cut for laser powder bed fusion, with 4.5–5.1% magnesium, 0.68–0.88% scandium, 0.3–0.8% manganese and 0.2–0.5% zirconium, with aluminum as the balance. Typical uses listed by CNPC include aerospace and automotive parts, consumer electronics and robotics.
What strength does printed Scalmalloy® aluminum reach with this powder?
According to the CNPC Powder catalog, as-built parts reach at least 231 MPa yield and 418 MPa tensile strength with 10% elongation. After 350 °C for 8 hours the catalog lists at least 509 MPa yield, 539 MPa tensile and 8% elongation, about twice the as-built yield. These are minimum values from the data sheet, not design data, so qualify the alloy on coupons from your own machine and parameters.
How is Scalmalloy® aluminum heat treated after printing?
The catalog cycle is 350 °C for 8 hours, which raises tensile strength to at least 539 MPa and thermal conductivity from 83 to 116 W/(m·K). Scalmalloy® is a registered trademark of APWORKS GmbH, used by CNPC Powder under license. Our materials engineer can help you plan test coupons and starting parameters before your first production build.
What particle size and flow does CNPC Powder Scalmalloy® aluminum powder have?
CNPC Powder Scalmalloy® aluminum powder is a 20–63 µm cut. The CNPC catalog specifies D10 of 15–30 µm, D50 of 30–45 µm and D90 of 55–70 µm, Hall flow of 75 s per 50 g or less, apparent density of at least 1.1 g/cm³ and sphericity of at least 90%. The certificate of analysis for your lot reports the measured particle size distribution and chemistry, and it is available on request.
Who makes CNPC Powder Scalmalloy® aluminum powder?
CNPC Powder makes it in China. Its catalog lists EIGA, VIGA, PREP and plasma spheroidization production lines and ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 13485 and IATF 16949 certificates, as stated by CNPC. Additive Plus sells and supports it in the US, with recommended starting parameters and the lot certificate on request.
How is Scalmalloy® different from AlSi10Mg?
Scalmalloy® is an aluminum-magnesium-scandium alloy designed for high strength. In the CNPC catalog it reaches at least 539 MPa tensile strength after 350 °C for 8 hours, while CNPC AlSi10Mg reaches at least 420 MPa as-built and 340 MPa after 250 °C for 2 hours. AlSi10Mg costs less per kilogram and conducts heat better after its heat treatment, 181.5 against 116 W/(m·K). Both are listed in the table at the top of this page.
How do I order CNPC Powder Scalmalloy® aluminum powder, and when does it ship?
Add it to the cart and pay by card or PayPal, choose Invoice me at checkout to receive an invoice for bank transfer, or send a purchase order to [email protected]. After you order, we confirm availability and the ship date by email. If that date does not work for you, we cancel the order and refund it in full. For 100 kg or more, ask us for a volume quote.
