About this product

The Delfin Mistral 451 BL Inert is the safe way to vacuum reactive metal powder — aluminium, titanium and similar alloys — in 3D printing and powder-handling environments. Instead of collecting dry powder in a bag, it uses immersion separation: the powder is drawn in and captured under a liquid bath, so it is never left as a dry, airborne, ignition-sensitive cloud. Combined with ATEX-rated, antistatic construction, that makes it the unit for depowdering and clean-down around LPBF and DMLS printers running reactive alloys. A 1.1 kW motor, 2-inch inlet and 2-gallon liquid separator handle the job on standard single-phase power.

How does immersion separation make reactive powder safe?

The Mistral 451 BL Inert draws the powder in and separates it into a liquid bath instead of a dry container, so the powder is wetted on capture and never accumulates as a dry cloud or dry cake. Combined with antistatic, grounded construction that prevents static build-up, this removes the main ignition pathways. The powder then stays under liquid for safer handling and disposal.
Which metals count as reactive and need this unit?
Reactive metal powders include aluminium (for example AlSi10Mg), titanium (for example Ti-6Al-4V) and magnesium alloys — powders that can react with air or moisture and are dangerous to collect dry. These need the inert immersion Mistral. Non-reactive metal powders such as stainless steel and nickel alloys can be handled with the dry ATEX D2 unit. If you are not certain how your alloy is classified, send Additive Plus the material and particle size and an engineer will confirm which unit is appropriate.
How is it different from the Mistral 451 BL D2?
Both are metal-safe Delfin vacuums, but for different hazards. The Mistral 451 BL Inert captures reactive metal powder — aluminium, titanium — under liquid by immersion separation, so it is never exposed to air. The Mistral 451 BL D2 is a dry ATEX vacuum for combustible dust and non-reactive metal powder such as stainless and nickel, using antistatic construction to avoid ignition. Choose the inert unit for reactive metals and the D2 for non-reactive/combustible dust; an engineer can confirm which your alloy needs.

The Mistral 451 BL Inert runs a 1.1 kW motor delivering 121.8 CFM (207 m³/h) of airflow at 90.6 in of water lift through a 2-inch inlet. It has a 2-gallon liquid (oil) separator capacity and 1-gallon dry capacity, with a 22 ft² antistatic Class M star primary filter and a polypropylene second-stage filter. That airflow is tuned for controlled depowdering of reactive metal rather than bulk high-volume pickup. Measured noise is 77 dB(A) per EN ISO 3744.
What maintenance and consumables does it need?
Plan to top up or change the immersion liquid, empty the captured powder under controlled conditions, and reorder the antistatic Class M primary filter and polypropylene second-stage filter on a schedule set by your usage. Filter cleaning is manual.
