What your process engineer actually checks

Throughput per square foot

Two 500 W lasers over a 425 mm long envelope on a 37.5 sq ft / 3.48 m² footprint. In an additive factory the number that matters is parts per square foot per year, and this frame is built around it.

An applications engineer on the line

About this product

The Farsoon FS200M-2 is a dual-laser LPBF system built for series production in molds, tooling and automotive. A long 16.7×9.1×11.8 in / 425×230×300 mm envelope, two 500 W lasers and a 37.5 sq ft / 3.48 m² footprint — the format for parts that repeat, not one-offs.

Why engineers choose the FS200M-2

Four things your process engineer will check first.

A long envelope, not a square one

425×230×300 mm suits parts that are long rather than bulky — sole molds, rails, manifolds. You nest more of them per plate than a square frame of the same volume would allow.

Dual-laser scanning with a robust recoater

Two 500 W lasers at up to 32.8 ft/s / 10 m/s, paired with industry-leading communication speed and a recoater built for continuous running. Faster production without giving up surface quality.

Top-feed powder, no build interruption

A high-efficiency top-feed system and a separate powder delivery unit handle material without disturbing the build in progress.

Two-stage filtration, 3.48 m² footprint

An integrated two-stage filter module stretches operating time between filter changes, and the compact floor plan lets you pack more machines per square foot of factory.

How we deliver and support it

What happens between the purchase order and your first qualified part.

Step 01
Scope the cell

We size the configuration against your part mix, then plan power, argon or nitrogen supply and extraction with your facilities team. Machine envelope is 91.3×59.1×78.7 in / 2320×1500×2000 mm; EUR/China: 400V±10%, 3~/N/PE, 50Hz, 25A. The US transformer ships with the machine.

Step 02
Install and train in the USA

Commissioning and operator training by our US service team. First builds are run together, so your operators hand over parts rather than a checklist.

Step 03
Parameters, spares, engineer

Validated parameter sets for your alloy, US-held spares, and an applications engineer who has run LPBF in production in-house at AO Metal. Sub-4h reply, NDA standard.

Qualified materials

Farsoon lists 316L and AlSi10Mg, with ST1, Maraging Steel Grade 300 and 420 in process development for the FS200M-2. Because the platform is open, a grade outside that list is a parameter development project rather than a dead end, and one we can run with you. The alloys we stock are lot-certified and held in the USA.

An aluminium heat exchanger with 0.2 mm walls

Farsoon publishes an automotive heat exchanger built on the FS200M-2 with partner SAPW: internal channels and a minimum wall thickness of 0.2 mm, in aluminium. Against machining and welding it removes the joints entirely, which is usually where this class of part fails.

Common questions

Don't see yours? Email [email protected] — NDA standard, typical reply within 4 hours.

Which alloys are qualified for the Farsoon FS200M-2?
On the FS200M-2, Farsoon's list is 316L and AlSi10Mg, with ST1, Maraging Steel Grade 300 and 420 in process development. Because the platform is open, an alloy outside that list is a parameter development project rather than a blocked path, and our applications engineers scope that work with you. Additive Plus stocks lot-certified metal powder in the USA for the common grades, so reordering does not mean re-qualifying a new supplier mid-programme. We will also tell you honestly which of those grades we can supply from US stock this quarter and which come on lead time.
Why is the FS200M-2 build envelope long rather than square?
The FS200M-2 envelope is 16.7×9.1×11.8 in / 425×230×300 mm — long in one axis. That geometry suits parts that are themselves long: sole molds, rails, manifolds. For those you fit more per plate than a square frame of the same volume would allow, and plate utilisation is what sets cost per part in series production. If your parts are bulky rather than long, the FS273M or FS301M is the better-shaped frame and we will say so.
Is the FS200M-2 an open system, or are we locked to vendor parameters?
Open. Farsoon unlocks key machine parameters on the FS200M-2, and BuildStar and MakeStar allow real-time build parameter modification with three-dimensional visualisation and diagnostic functions. On the FS200M-2 teams mostly use it to tune dual-laser scan strategy for long parts, where the two lasers meet along the length of the plate rather than across it. You can change layer thickness within a build and adapt scanning between infill and detail. The parameter set you develop stays yours, which is the difference between owning a process and renting one.
What part size does the FS200M-2 handle, and what fits in one build?
Build envelope on the FS200M-2 is 16.7×9.1×11.8 in / 425×230×300 mm. The usable volume is slightly less in practice, since orientation, supports and the recoater clearance all take a share. As a reference point, Farsoon publishes one case on this platform: Metal shoe sole mold, 316L. Send us the STL and we will nest it, tell you how many parts fit per plate and estimate the build time before you commit to anything.
What does installation and training in the USA involve for the FS200M-2?
We handle it end to end. Our US engineers commission the FS200M-2 and train the operators, after planning the cell with your facilities team pre-order. The machine envelope is 91.3×59.1×78.7 in / 2320×1500×2000 mm, it weighs approximately 4409 lb / 2000 kg, it runs on EUR/China: 400V±10%, 3~/N/PE, 50Hz, 25A, and the US transformer ships with the machine. Inert gas draw in process is 3-5 L / min, and we plan argon or nitrogen supply and extraction with you. First builds are run together with your operators, so what you get at handover is parts and a working parameter set, not a checklist and a manual.
How does the FS200M-2 compare with the other Farsoon metal platforms?
Think of the Farsoon metal platforms as a size ladder rather than trim levels: the part decides the frame. Either side of the FS200M-2 sit the Farsoon FS273M (10.8×10.8×14.0 in and a much wider alloy list) and the Farsoon FS301M (12.0×12.0×16.1 in with full dual-laser coverage). Laser count is the second decision, and it only pays back when nesting keeps every laser busy. Give us the geometry and the volume and we will recommend the frame on your numbers, not on the spec sheet.
Can we test the FS200M-2 before committing to a purchase?
Yes. Send an STL and we print a paid benchmark part in California, then hand over the part together with the parameter set and a cost-per-part breakdown, so you are judging your own geometry rather than a vendor sample. For the FS200M-2 the figure worth proving is plate utilisation: how many of your long parts nest into 425 mm, and what that does to cost per part. There is no free sample, but there is no obligation either, and a capability call with an applications engineer costs nothing. We will also confirm the current lead time and the configuration Farsoon is shipping today.
