The QATM Qness 10/60 M is a manual micro hardness tester that runs Vickers, Knoop and Brinell — with an optional Rockwell module — across a 0.25 gf – 62.5 kgf force range spanning the 10 and 60 force classes, pairing electronic force application with microscope-grade optics and a manual XY cross slide for economical single-piece testing.

The Qness 10/60 M runs Vickers (HV) and Knoop (HK) micro and low-macro ranges plus Brinell (HBW) from an 8-position motorized turret. An optional Rockwell module adds HRC/HRB and related scales as a plug-and-play retrofit. Test force spans 0.25 gf to 62.5 kgf on the Qness 60 M and 20 gf to 10 kgf on the Qness 10 M, covering micro Vickers on coatings through low-macro Brinell on bulk parts. How small a feature can the Qness 10/60 M measure?
With loads down to 0.25 gf on the Qness 60 M and 100× XLED optics, the Qness 10/60 M resolves micro-indentations on thin coatings, case-hardened layers, weld heat-affected zones and individual phases in a microstructure. Field of view runs from 0.074 × 0.055 mm at 100× to 2.80 × 2.10 mm at XLED 2×, and the motorized aperture with Koehler illumination gives the edge contrast that Vickers diagonal reading needs. The upright microscope and 5 Mpixel camera feed Qpix Control2 M, which measures diagonals with surface-indentation recognition.
How is the Qness 10/60 M different from the automated 10/60 A+ and 60 A+ EVO?
The Qness 10/60 M is the manual member of the family: you position samples with a manual XY cross slide and focus by joystick, while force application and the dynamic Z approach are electronic. It is built for single-piece and short-run testing where flexibility matters more than volume. If you need unattended series, automated CHD traverses or weld-map stitching, step up to the Qness 10/60 A+ — motorized XY, automatic force and turret — or the Qness 60 A+ EVO, which adds a sample-image camera and automatic test-head height for fully unmanned cycles. All three share the same force range and method set.
Can the Qness 10/60 M run case-hardening-depth and weld traverses?
Yes. Qpix Control2 M lets you predefine test programs with a fixed number of points and run CHD, SHD and Rht progressions along a line, entering positions with the manual slide, digital micrometer spindle and positional return. For weld work you place HV rows across the fusion line and heat-affected zone. Because positioning is manual, these are operator-driven rather than fully automatic — ideal for occasional or single-piece CHD and weld qualification. Labs running high daily volumes of traverses are better served by the automated Qness 10/60 A+ models.

Micro Vickers resolves hardness gradients between layers, at melt-pool boundaries and across build/substrate interfaces, which matters for qualifying AM process windows.
