What is the Rockwell hardness testing portal?
It is a customized, automated Rockwell hardness testing solution built on a portal (gantry) frame. Instead of lifting a part into a bench-top tester's throat, the portal carries the test head over a large table so the component is tested in place. It performs Rockwell testing to ISO 6508 / ASTM E18 with motorized positioning and QATM Qpix software for programs, reporting and calibration. What size and weight of parts can it handle?
The working envelope — table size, portal clearance, positioning travel and the supported part weight — is engineered to your components, so there is no single fixed limit. Which Rockwell scales and standards does it use?
The portal performs Rockwell hardness testing to ISO 6508 and ASTM E18. The specific scales (for example HRA, HRB, HRC and superficial Rockwell) are configured to your material and specification. Each system is verified against certified reference blocks and managed with the Qpix Calibration Manager, so results are traceable and audit-ready. Tell us the scales you report to and we will confirm the configuration.
How is it automated, and can it run in a production line?
The portal uses motorized positioning to move the test head to programmed points and run repeatable, documented series. Depending on your brief it can be configured for high-throughput QC and integrated into a production cell or line workflow, with Qpix software handling test programs, reporting and data export to your QC or line systems. The level of automation and integration is defined during the engineering phase.
How does it differ from a standard Qness hardness tester?
A standard tester such as the Qness 250/750/3000 has a fixed frame and throat sized for parts you place into it. A portal solution instead brings the test head to the part across a large table, so it suits components too big, heavy or awkward to load into a standard frame — or applications needing many points over a wide area. If your parts fit a standard frame, that is usually the simpler and lower-cost choice; the portal is for cases where they do not.
