About this product

PowderRange® AlSi10Mg is a lightweight aluminum casting alloy for laser powder bed fusion (LPBF), ideal for parts that need low weight, complex geometry and good thermal properties. The silicon-magnesium chemistry gives increased strength and hardness, while keeping the part easy to finish — it can be spark-eroded, welded, micro shot-peened, polished and coated.

Like cast AlSi10Mg, printed parts can be heat-treated (for example a T6 cycle of solution annealing, quenching and age hardening) to lift mechanical properties. It also has excellent weldability in laser AM.

Why teams buy this powder from Additive Plus

  • Genuine Carpenter PowderRange® AlSi10Mg — gas-atomized for high sphericity, low oxygen and consistent flow.
  • Available in small, workable volumes. Most mills sell large minimums and hide pricing behind an account. We stock this alloy and sell it in accessible quantities at a clear, published price.
  • COA on request — particle size distribution, chemistry, apparent density and flow rate, with a traceable lot number.
  • In US stock — ready to ship. Order online in minutes.
  • Need a custom alloy or a tighter cut? We also run our own atomization in-house and can produce custom small-batch powder on request — separate from this stocked product.

What is AlSi10Mg aluminum alloy powder?
AlSi10Mg is a gas-atomized aluminum alloy powder specifically developed for Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) and DMLS metal 3D printing. Its silicon and magnesium content provides an excellent balance of low weight, strength, thermal conductivity, corrosion resistance, and printability, making it one of the most widely used aluminum alloys in additive manufacturing.
What is AlSi10Mg used for?
AlSi10Mg is commonly used to manufacture lightweight, high-performance components for aerospace, automotive, robotics, electronics, industrial equipment, and research applications. Typical parts include brackets, heat exchangers, cooling channels, housings, ducts, RF waveguides, and functional prototypes requiring complex geometries.
Can you 3D print aluminum with AlSi10Mg powder?
Yes. AlSi10Mg is one of the most popular aluminum alloys for LPBF and DMLS metal 3D printing. It offers excellent laser processability, produces dense parts with complex internal features, and delivers strong mechanical performance after appropriate heat treatment.
Which metal 3D printers are compatible with this powder?
This PowderRange® AlSi10Mg powder is compatible with most industrial LPBF and DMLS metal 3D printers that support aluminum alloys and a particle size distribution of 20–63 μm. It is commonly used on systems from EOS, Nikon SLM Solutions, Renishaw, Trumpf, Farsoon, Additive Industries, and other leading metal additive manufacturing platforms.

What particle size distribution does this powder have?
This product is supplied with a 20–63 μm particle size distribution, making it suitable for standard LPBF production systems. Certificate of Analysis available on request (COA) verifying particle size distribution, chemistry, apparent density, and flow characteristics.
Who manufactures this AlSi10Mg powder?
This is genuine Carpenter PowderRange® AlSi10Mg manufactured by Carpenter Additive under internationally recognized quality management systems, including AS9100, AS9120, ISO 9001, and ISO 13485. Additive Plus supplies fully traceable, genuine material with complete lot documentation.
Why is gas atomization important for LPBF powder?
Gas atomization produces highly spherical powder particles with excellent flowability and consistent packing density. These characteristics improve powder spreading, increase part density, reduce printing defects, and deliver more repeatable build quality across production runs.
Is every bottle supplied with a Certificate of Analysis?
Yes. Every bottle includes a complete Certificate of Analysis containing particle size distribution, chemical composition, oxygen content, apparent density, flow rate, and a traceable lot number to support quality assurance and regulated manufacturing.
Can AlSi10Mg parts be heat treated?
Yes. AlSi10Mg responds well to post-processing heat treatment, including T6 heat treatment consisting of solution annealing, quenching, and artificial aging. Heat treatment can improve strength, hardness, and overall mechanical performance depending on the application.
Is AlSi10Mg easy to machine and finish?
Yes. Printed AlSi10Mg components are easy to machine, weld, polish, coat, micro shot-peen, and finish using conventional manufacturing methods. This makes the alloy suitable for both prototype and production applications requiring secondary machining.
What are the main advantages of AlSi10Mg over stainless steel?
AlSi10Mg is significantly lighter than stainless steel while offering excellent thermal conductivity and good corrosion resistance. It is ideal for applications where reducing weight and improving heat transfer are more important than maximizing strength.
Is this powder suitable for aerospace and automotive applications?
Yes. AlSi10Mg is widely used throughout the aerospace, automotive, motorsport, robotics, and industrial manufacturing industries because it combines lightweight performance, excellent printability, and strong mechanical properties.
How is the powder packaged?
This product is supplied in 10 kg (22 lb) packs with secure packaging designed to protect the powder during storage and transportation. Proper packaging helps maintain powder quality and minimizes contamination before use.
Do you offer larger quantities or custom aluminum powders?
Yes. Additive Plus offers volume pricing for larger production orders and can also produce custom aluminum powders, modified chemistries, and specialized particle size distributions through its in-house atomization capabilities.
How quickly can my order be shipped?
In-stock alloys ship within 2 business days. For alloys not in stock, we confirm the ship date as soon as you send your request.
Can I speak with a materials engineer before purchasing?
Yes. Additive Plus provides direct access to experienced materials engineers who can help you select the appropriate powder, review machine compatibility, discuss printing parameters, recommend recycling strategies, and answer technical questions before you place an order.
