About this product

BELPORE is a mercury intrusion porosimeter for pore size and pore volume from 3.6 nm to 180 µm — pressure to 414 MPa, up to 20,000 measuring points, with fractal, tortuosity and permeability analysis.

What Is the BELPORE: Mercury Intrusion Porosimetry

The BELPORE forces mercury into a sample under rising pressure; the intrusion volume at each pressure gives pore size distribution and total pore volume by the mercury-intrusion (ISO 15901-1) method. Low-, medium- and high-pressure stages span nanometre to macropore ranges, and PoreInspect derives pore models, fractal dimension, tortuosity and permeability. See full specifications below.

Why porosity labs choose the BELPORE

The widest single-technique pore range, plus structure and transport analysis.

Nano to macro pores

One workflow from 3.6 nm micropores through 180 µm macropores across LP, MP and HP stages — the widest single-technique pore range.

High-resolution intrusion

Up to 10,000 intrusion and 10,000 extrusion points, pressure accuracy better than 0.1% F.S. and volume better than 1% — fine pore-distribution detail.

Beyond pore size

PoreInspect derives pore models, fractal dimension, tortuosity and permeability, so one measurement supports transport and structure studies.

Multi-instrument control

Monitor up to four porosimeters over LAN from one PoreInspect workstation — scale QC throughput without four operators.

How Additive Plus delivers it

Configured to your pore range, installed with safety setup, method-supported.

Step 01
Configure

We match the pressure stage (LP, MP or HP) and dilatometer type — standard, professional or ultra-macropore — to your pore range and sample.

Step 02
Install & train

Installation, mercury-handling and safety setup, PoreInspect training and a validated first intrusion run on your sample.

Step 03
Method support

Porosimetry method support — corrections, contact angle and fractal/permeability analysis — from a team that runs porosity work in-house.

Common questions

Don't see yours? Email [email protected] — NDA standard, typical reply within 4 hours.

What pore size range does the BELPORE cover?
The BELPORE measures pore diameters from about 3.6 nm to 180 µm using low-, medium- and high-pressure stages. Mercury intrusion is the standard technique for meso- and macropores where gas adsorption stops, so the BELPORE covers the wide structural range that ceramics, refractories, catalysts and geological samples need — in one instrument and one workflow.
How does mercury porosimetry differ from gas adsorption?
Gas adsorption (for example on a BELSORP) resolves micropores and small mesopores below roughly 100 nm; mercury intrusion on the BELPORE covers larger mesopores and macropores up to 180 µm and gives total pore volume and pore-throat size. Many labs run both — adsorption for fine pores, the BELPORE for the coarse structure and interconnectivity that controls flow and strength.
How accurate and detailed are the results?
Pressure accuracy is better than 0.1% of full scale and volume accuracy better than 1%, with up to 10,000 intrusion and 10,000 extrusion points per run. That fine sampling resolves detailed pore-size distributions and hysteresis. PoreInspect software then computes pore models, fractal dimension, tortuosity and permeability from the same intrusion curve.
What analysis does PoreInspect provide beyond pore size?
PoreInspect reports pore-size distribution and total pore volume, plus pore models, fractal dimension, tortuosity, permeability estimates and statistical evaluations. It can monitor up to four BELPORE instruments over a LAN from one workstation, so structure and transport parameters come from a single measurement — useful for catalysis, geoscience and building-materials research.
What sample cells (dilatometers) are available?
Three dilatometer types cover different sample sizes and pore ranges: standard (3 mm or 6 mm capillary, 15 or 35 cm³), professional (3 mm capillary, 8 cm³) and ultra-macropore (6 mm capillary, 50 cm³) for coarse structures. We help you match the dilatometer and pressure stage to your sample so intrusion volume falls in the accurate part of the range.
What about mercury safety and handling?
Mercury porosimetry uses elemental mercury, which requires proper handling, containment and disposal under local regulations. Additive Plus covers safe mercury handling, waste routing and containment during installation and training so the BELPORE runs within your lab's EHS requirements. We also advise on facility and ventilation considerations before delivery.
What lead time and support come with the BELPORE?
The BELPORE is configured to order, so lead time depends on the pressure stage, dilatometers and options — request a current timeline and we confirm it in writing. Every system includes installation, mercury-handling and safety setup, PoreInspect training and a validated first intrusion run on your sample, backed by application engineering with a sub-4-hour response.
