About this product

BELPYCNO is a gas-displacement pycnometer for true and skeletal density of powders, granules and porous solids — 0.03% accuracy with helium or nitrogen and three interchangeable sample cells.

What Is the BELPYCNO: Gas-Displacement True Density

The BELPYCNO measures true (skeletal) density by displacing a known volume of gas around the sample. Helium penetrates open pores to resolve skeletal volume, while nitrogen or another inert gas suits gas-sensitive materials. Automatic calibration against a certified sphere keeps results traceable. See full specifications below.

Why QC labs choose the BELPYCNO

Certifiable true-density numbers from a simple bench-top instrument.

High accuracy

Density to 0.03% of full scale plus 0.03% of reading, repeatability 0.02% — with automatic calibration against a certified sphere.

Gas displacement

Helium resolves true skeletal volume by penetrating open pores; nitrogen or inert gas for gas-sensitive samples. Measurement pressure to 145 kPa.

Three cell sizes

10, 3.5 and 1 cm³ cells cover bulk powders to milligram samples. A greaseless, one-touch cap speeds loading and cleaning.

Compact & simple

Bench-top 270×170×300 mm, 8 kg. Up to 100 repeats and 10 averaged runs, with balance and printer output over RS232C.

How Additive Plus delivers it

Configured to your material, installed and method-supported.

Step 01
Configure

We match cell sizes, gas (helium or nitrogen) and the optional thermostatic bath to your material and sample amount.

Step 02
Install & train

Installation, calibration-sphere setup, software training and a validated first density run on your own powder.

Common questions

Don't see yours? Email [email protected] — NDA standard, typical reply within 4 hours.

What does the BELPYCNO measure — true density or bulk density?
The BELPYCNO measures true (skeletal) density — the density of the solid material excluding open pore volume — not tap or bulk density. It displaces a known volume of gas around the sample; helium penetrates open pores to resolve the skeletal volume precisely. That true-density figure is what feeds porosity calculations, purity checks and lot-release specifications.
How accurate and repeatable is it?
The BELPYCNO measures to 0.03% of full scale plus 0.03% of reading, with repeatability of 0.02% of full scale. Automatic calibration against a certified calibration sphere keeps the result traceable, and you can average up to 10 runs (from as many as 100 repeats) to tighten the number for QC sign-off.
Which gases can it use, and does it have to be helium?
Helium is preferred because its small atoms penetrate fine open pores for the most accurate skeletal density. For gas-sensitive or reactive materials the BELPYCNO also runs nitrogen or another inert gas. We help you choose the gas and purge cycle so you get accurate density without altering the sample, at a measurement pressure up to 145 kPa.
What sample sizes and cells are available?
Three interchangeable sample cells — 10, 3.5 and 1 cm³ — cover bulk powders down to milligram amounts of scarce material. A greaseless, one-touch cell cap speeds loading and cleaning and avoids the errors that grease seals introduce. We advise on the right cell for your typical sample mass.
Does the BELPYCNO need sample degassing or pretreatment?
Samples should be dry and free of adsorbed moisture for accurate density; the BELPYCNO runs pretreatment purge cycles at 0–145 kPa, with an optional vacuum. For moisture-sensitive materials we help you set purge time and, where needed, degas separately. Correct pretreatment is what keeps true-density numbers consistent between operators and batches.
How compact is it and what utilities does it need?
The BELPYCNO is a bench-top instrument, 270×170×300 mm and about 8 kg, running on standard 100–240 V single-phase power at 200 W. It needs a supply of the measurement gas (helium or nitrogen). RS232C outputs connect a printer and an electronic balance, so density and mass log together for reporting.
What lead time and support come with the BELPYCNO?
The BELPYCNO is configured to order, so lead time depends on cell sizes, gas and the optional thermostatic bath — request a current timeline and we confirm it in writing. Every unit includes installation, calibration-sphere setup, software training and a validated first density run on your own powder, backed by application engineering with a sub-4-hour response.
