The ALTANA Cubic Ink Resin Line: A Guide to the Industrial DLP/LCD Range

ALTANA’s Cubic Ink is a line of industrial UV-curable resins for DLP, LCD and mSLA 3D printing — built for tooling, functional parts and end-use production rather than hobby prints. Here is the whole range at a glance, what each grade is for, and how to pick.

Cubic Ink is ALTANA’s photopolymer portfolio for open DLP/LCD/mSLA systems (385 and 405 nm). The grades span a wide property envelope — from water-breakable injection-mold tooling to high-heat, tough, rigid, static-dissipative and dental materials — and several map directly onto industrial resins you may already run, so switching is a spec comparison, not a leap of faith. Additive Plus stocks the line in the US with application support.

The Cubic Ink range at a glance

Resin Best for Key numbers
Mold 400 VP Water-breakable injection-mold & casting tooling Up to 380 °C / 1200 bar at process; dissolves in water
High Temperature 1901 VP High-heat tooling & molds, tough not brittle HDT-B 272 °C; Tg > 300 °C; cytotoxicity passed
Tough 2100 VP Fast, impact-resistant functional parts 36 J/m notched Izod; 12% elongation; 73 MPa
High Performance 4-4800 VP Durable, scratch-resistant final parts HDT-B 90 °C; 44 J/m Izod; cytotoxicity passed
Rigid 2000 VP Stiff, heat- & chemical-resistant industrial parts 92 MPa; 3600 MPa modulus; HDT-B 122 °C
Rigid 1600 VP Affordable, high-precision prototyping 62 MPa; 3000 MPa modulus; HDT-B 80 °C
High Performance 4-2800 VP-ESD Static-safe electronics parts, tough Volume resistivity 5.5×107 Ω·cm; HDT-B 94 °C
Rigid 300 VP High Resolution Fine-detail, high-resolution precision parts Ultra-thin layers; 0.3% water uptake; 37 MPa
Dental 3000 VP Dental models for aligner thermoforming Prints to 150 µm; cytotoxicity passed; made in USA

Tooling & molds

The line’s standout is Mold 400 VP, a water-breakable One-Shot Mold resin: print a sacrificial injection or casting mold, fill it once — even with PEEK, PPS or glass-filled plastics — then dissolve it in water to release the part. For durable high-heat tooling and mold inserts that stay in service, High Temperature 1901 VP holds an HDT-B of 272 °C while staying tough enough to drill and machine.

Functional & final parts

For parts that take a knock, Tough 2100 VP balances impact resistance and stiffness and prints fast. High Performance 4-4800 VP adds scratch resistance and a clean regulatory profile for durable, good-looking end-use parts in several colours.

Rigid & industrial

Where stiffness and heat matter, Rigid 2000 VP is the all-rounder (92 MPa, HDT-B 122 °C, excellent chemical resistance). For everyday functional prototyping at a lower price, Rigid 1600 VP gives high-precision parts with balanced properties, and Rigid 300 VP High Resolution handles the finest detail.

Specialty: ESD and dental

Two grades target specific jobs: High Performance 4-2800 VP-ESD is a tough, static-dissipative resin for electronics fixtures and trays, and Dental 3000 VP is a US-made model material for aligner thermoforming.

Already running Loctite or other industrial resins? Several Cubic Ink grades sit in the same application class as resins you may already stock, so a switch is a short technical comparison rather than a redesign. Ask our team for a side-by-side on your specific grade.

Why buy Cubic Ink through Additive Plus

We stock the line in the US, run additive tooling and printing in-house, and match the resin, print settings and post-cure to your parts. Processing guides ship with the materials, an SDS comes with every order, and a materials engineer is on the line with a sub-24h reply.

Frequently asked questions

What is ALTANA Cubic Ink?

ALTANA Cubic Ink is a line of industrial UV-curable resins for DLP, LCD and mSLA 3D printing, spanning water-breakable mold tooling, high-temperature, tough, rigid, ESD and dental grades for functional and end-use parts.

Which Cubic Ink resin should I choose?

Start from the requirement: high heat → High Temperature 1901 VP; impact → Tough 2100 VP or High Performance 4-4800 VP; stiffness → Rigid 2000, 1600 or 300 VP; ESD → High Performance 4-2800 VP-ESD; dental → Dental 3000 VP; a dissolvable mould → Mold 400 VP.

Are Cubic Ink resins compatible with my printer?

They print on open DLP, LCD and mSLA systems at 385 or 405 nm. Validated settings exist for common Formlabs, Asiga, Prusa, Phrozen and Nexa machines, and every grade ships with a processing guide.

Where can I buy Cubic Ink resins in the US?

Additive Plus stocks the Cubic Ink line in the US with application support. Each grade ships with a processing guide, and an SDS comes with every order.
