Common questions

Don't see yours? Email [email protected] — NDA on request.

Is this Inconel 625 powder powder for laser powder bed fusion (LPBF)?
No. PowderRange 625 (Inconel 625) powder (45–106 µm) is the coarse 45–106 µm E cut, made for electron-beam powder bed fusion and powder-fed directed energy deposition. Carpenter's limits for the E cut are no more than 10 wt% above 106 µm and no more than 10 wt% below 45 µm. For laser powder bed fusion, choose the 15–45 µm F cut of PowderRange 625, listed in the table at the top of this page with its price and availability.
What is PowderRange 625 (Inconel 625) powder (45–106 µm)?
PowderRange 625 (Inconel 625) powder (45–106 µm) is a non-magnetic nickel-chromium-molybdenum superalloy powder from Carpenter Additive, vacuum induction melted and argon gas atomized to ASTM F3056. It keeps strength and toughness from cryogenic temperatures to 1093 °C (2000 °F), has excellent fatigue strength and resists chloride stress-corrosion cracking. Carpenter lists heat shields, furnace hardware, combustion liners, gas turbine ducting, chemical plant hardware and seawater parts as typical uses.
How is Inconel 625 heat treated after printing?
Carpenter's guidance for PowderRange 625: stress relieve per AMS2774 at 1038 °C (1900 °F) for 1 hour with air cooling, or solution anneal at 1177 °C (2150 °F) with rapid cooling for higher ductility. HIP per ASTM F3056 at about 1141 °C (2087 °F) and at least 100 MPa for 240 minutes closes porosity. 625 gains its strength from solid solution, so it is not aged like 718.
Inconel 625 or Inconel 718: which should I choose?
Choose 718 for strength: it is age-hardenable, and in Carpenter data it reaches 1,086 MPa yield and 1,425 MPa tensile after solution and aging. Choose 625 for corrosion resistance and ductility: Carpenter rates it excellent in sea water, salt spray and sour oil and gas, where 718 is moderate in sea water, and printed 625 shows 40–60% elongation. Both are in our catalog with published prices.
How corrosion-resistant is Inconel 625 powder?
Very. Carpenter rates PowderRange 625 as excellent in humidity, sea water, salt spray, sour oil and gas, phosphoric acid, acetic acid and sodium hydroxide, and good in nitric and sulfuric acids. Nickel and chromium resist oxidizing environments, molybdenum adds resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, and chloride stress-corrosion cracking resistance is excellent. Corrosion testing of printed parts is still recommended.
Does Inconel 625 powder come with a certificate of analysis?
Yes. Every order of PowderRange 625 (Inconel 625) powder (45–106 µm) ships with Carpenter Additive's certificate of analysis for the lot you receive. It lists chemistry, particle size distribution (D10, D50, D90), flow and apparent density, with the lot number for traceability. Carpenter states that its powder testing meets Nadcap Materials Testing and ISO/IEC 17025 chemical requirements. If your quality team needs to review a recent certificate before you order, ask us and we will send one.
How fast does Inconel 625 powder ship, and how can I pay?
Add PowderRange 625 (Inconel 625) powder (45–106 µm) to the cart and the ship date appears next to the button; in-stock Carpenter powder ships from US stock, typically within 2–5 business days. You can pay by card or PayPal, choose Invoice me at checkout to receive an invoice for bank transfer, or send a purchase order to [email protected]. Tax-exempt buyers can upload a certificate at checkout. For 100 kg or more, ask us for a volume quote.
