PowderRange® 939W (IN939) is a high-temperature nickel-base superalloy with excellent strength and wear resistance at elevated temperatures. It is a weldable additive-manufacturing variant of cast alloy IN939, used for hot-gas-path gas-turbine components such as vanes, blades and shrouds.

It offers high resistance to high-temperature oxidation and corrosion together with good high-temperature mechanical properties — including creep resistance and thermally-induced low-cycle fatigue — and can be precipitation-hardened by heat treatment.

Why teams buy this powder from Additive Plus

  • Genuine Carpenter PowderRange® 939W — gas-atomized for high sphericity, low oxygen and consistent flow.
  • Available in small, workable volumes. Most mills sell large minimums and hide pricing behind an account. We stock this alloy and sell it in accessible quantities at a clear, published price.
  • Full COA with every lot — particle size distribution, chemistry, apparent density and flow rate, with a traceable lot number.
  • Fast dispatch from Los Angeles.
  • Need a custom alloy or a tighter cut? We also run our own atomization in-house and can produce custom small-batch powder on request — separate from this stocked product.

Standards & equivalents

  • Equivalents / alternate names: IN939 · CM 939 Weldable · Ni-Alloy IN939
  • Machine type: F — LPBF · also E — EBM · Particle size: 15–45 µm · Bottle: 10 kg / 22 lbs
  • Carpenter Part No.: 10002329
  • Quality: manufactured by Carpenter Additive under AS9100, AS9120, ISO 9001 & ISO 13485 quality systems. (These certifications are Carpenter’s, covering the powder; Additive Plus resells genuine, fully traceable lots and is not itself a certified manufacturer.)

Chemical composition

Typical chemistry (wt%), per the Carpenter PowderRange® datasheet:

Element Content Element Content
Nickel (Ni) Balance Niobium (Nb) 0.50–1.5%
Chromium (Cr) 22.00–23.00% Tantalum (Ta) 1.00–1.80%
Cobalt (Co) 18.0–20.0% Manganese (Mn) ≤ 0.50%
Titanium (Ti) 3.00–4.5% Silicon (Si) ≤ 0.50%
Aluminum (Al) 1.00–3.0% Carbon (C) ≤ 0.15%
Tungsten (W) 1.00–3.00% Zirconium (Zr) ≤ 0.10%
Boron (B) ≤ 0.01%

Heat treatment & processing

  • Precipitation-hardenable — solution treatment followed by aging develops the high-temperature mechanical properties.
  • The “W” (weldable) chemistry is tuned for additive manufacturing, reducing cracking compared with the standard cast composition.
  • Designed for demanding hot-section turbine hardware.

Key performance benefits

  • High-temperature tensile strength
  • High-temperature wear resistance
  • High-temperature oxidation resistance
  • High-temperature corrosion resistance
  • Weldable, AM-optimized variant of cast IN939

Typical applications

  • Hot-gas-path turbine components (vanes, blades, shrouds)
  • Gas-turbine engine components
  • Other high-temperature aerospace, energy and industrial hardware

Same lot 4 times in a row. We stopped re-running parameter sweeps after the second order — density was identical to the first build.

Asked about ferrite content on a Friday. A materials engineer answered Monday morning with actual data, not a sales pitch. That's why we keep ordering.

COA matches the bottle. PSD and flow are exactly what was on the sheet — we run it on a Renishaw 500Q and it hits density on the first try.
