About this product

The Shining 3D EINSTAR Rockit is a pocket-sized, fully wireless handheld 3D scanner with two light sources in one device — blue laser lines for fine detail and infrared for fast, large-area capture. It captures detail down to a 5 × 5 × 5 mm minimum scan volume at 0.05 mm resolution, supports marker-free laser scanning, and records full-color texture with a 5 MP camera.

Dual-source capture — laser for detail, IR for speed — completely cable-free.

Why designers and makers choose the EINSTAR Rockit

Two light sources and pro-level detail in something that fits your pocket.

Two light sources, one device

Switch between 38 blue laser lines for high detail and IR for fast capture of large objects — precision when you need it, speed when you don’t.

Detail you can use

0.05 mm resolution and a 5 MP color camera capture crisp geometry and realistic texture, from a 5 mm minimum scan volume in laser mode up to large objects in IR mode. See full specifications below.

Marker-free, works in daylight

Marker-free laser scanning by feature alignment, plus hybrid texture and feature alignment in IR, cuts setup and cleanup. Laser HD holds up to 110,000 lux and IR to 70,000 lux, so it scans outdoors and under bright shop lights.

Truly pocket-portable

At 425 g with a swappable battery giving up to 3 hours and built-in Wi-Fi, the Rockit works completely off mains power — one hand, no cables, anywhere.

Scanning Performance

The EINSTAR Rockit pairs 38 blue-laser lines (19+19 crossed) and 7 parallel lines with an IR VCSEL. Laser HD captures at 2,800,000 points/s down to 0.05 mm resolution; IR mode reaches 4,800,000 points/s for fast capture of larger objects, and Shining 3D quotes scanning at up to 90 fps. Working distance runs 100–600 mm with the crossed laser lines (100–400 mm with the 7 parallel lines) and 160–1400 mm on IR, with a laser field of view up to 545 × 620 mm. See the full specification table below.

425 g and fully wireless — scans anywhere, one-handed.

Portable & Wireless

The Rockit is built to leave the desk. Built-in Wi-Fi streams data without a cable to the PC (a USB Type-C cable is available if Wi-Fi interference occurs), and a swappable battery gives up to three hours of scanning. At pocket size and 425 g, it goes to the object — a car panel in the shop, a sculpture in a studio, a part on the bench.

Software & Output

The Rockit runs on Shining 3D’s EXStar Hub software and exports STL, OBJ, PLY, 3MF, and ASC. STL and 3MF drop straight into 3D-printing slicers, while OBJ and PLY carry the 5 MP color texture for design, art, and documentation. EXModel Personal for reverse engineering is available as a separate bundle.

Common questions

Don't see yours? Email [email protected] — NDA on request, typical reply within 4 hours.

What is the difference between the laser and IR scan modes?
The EINSTAR Rockit has two light sources. Laser HD mode uses 38 crossed blue-laser lines (19 + 19) for fast, large-area detail capture and 7 parallel lines for fine features, at 0.05 mm resolution and up to 2,800,000 points/s. IR Rapid mode uses an infrared VCSEL for fast capture of larger objects, up to 4,800,000 points/s. You switch between them depending on whether the job needs detail or speed.
What resolution can I expect — is there an accuracy figure?
Shining 3D specifies resolution, not accuracy, for the EINSTAR Rockit: 0.05–10 mm in Laser HD mode and 0.2–10 mm in IR Rapid mode, with a minimum scan volume of 5 × 5 × 5 mm in laser mode. That suits detailed product design, reverse engineering, and 3D-printing work. As with any handheld scanner, real-world results depend on technique and surface.
Do I need markers to scan?
In most cases, no. Shining 3D states the Rockit supports marker-free laser scanning with both crossed and parallel lines, aligning on surface features, and its IR mode supports hybrid alignment using features, texture, and markers. For objects with few surface features, marker-based alignment is available in laser mode.
Is it really fully wireless — what about battery and PC?
Yes. The EINSTAR Rockit has a built-in Wi-Fi module and a swappable battery with up to 3 hours of runtime, so it works with no cable to the PC; a USB Type-C cable connection is available if Wi-Fi interference occurs. Shining 3D's FAQ lists two batteries and a battery charger, so you can charge one while scanning with the other. It weighs 425 g with the battery.
What software does it use, and what formats does it export?
The EINSTAR Rockit runs on Shining 3D's EXStar Hub software and exports STL, OBJ, PLY, 3MF, and ASC. STL and 3MF go straight into 3D-printing slicers, while OBJ and PLY keep the 5 MP color texture for design and presentation. EXModel Personal for reverse engineering is sold as a separate bundle.
Can it scan shiny, dark, or large objects?
Shining 3D states the Rockit works well on black and reflective surfaces without spray. For large objects, IR mode with a working distance up to 1400 mm and a 1170 × 1385 mm field of view captures car parts and sculptures quickly. Laser HD mode works in up to 110,000 lux and IR Rapid in up to 70,000 lux, so it also scans outdoors.
How does the Rockit compare to the original Einstar and the Einstar 2?
The original Einstar uses infrared (VCSEL) structured light; the EINSTAR 2 and Rockit add blue laser. Compared with the EINSTAR 2 (17 parallel lines, 2.3 MP texture), the Rockit has 38 crossed + 7 parallel laser lines, marker-free laser scanning, a 5 MP texture camera, and a 5 mm minimum scan volume in laser mode. Both have the same rated outdoor limits (110,000 lux laser / 70,000 lux IR). We help you match the model to your work.
