About this product

The ELTRA CS-580A is a combustion analyzer for the simultaneous determination of carbon and sulfur in organic and inorganic samples. The sample is burned in an oxygen atmosphere in a resistance furnace adjustable up to 1,550 °C in 1 °C steps; the combustion gases (CO₂, SO₂) are dried and measured in up to four solid-state infrared cells. It covers 0.005–100 % as a single element (C or S) or a combined C/S configuration, accepts 50–500 mg sample weights, and supports TOC to DIN EN 15936 plus an optional TIC module.

What does the ELTRA CS-580A measure?
The CS-580A simultaneously determines carbon and sulfur in organic and inorganic samples, over a wide concentration range from 0.005 % up to 100 %. It can be configured for a single element (carbon or sulfur) or for combined C/S analysis, and it also supports TOC (total organic carbon) to DIN EN 15936 and, with the optional module, TIC (total inorganic carbon).
How does the measurement work?
You weigh 50–500 mg of sample into a ceramic crucible and register it in the software. The sample is burned in an oxygen atmosphere in a resistance furnace, freely adjustable up to 1,550 °C in 1 °C steps. The combustion gases (CO₂, SO₂) pass a dust filter, the water vapor is chemically absorbed, and the dried CO₂ and SO₂ are measured in solid-state infrared cells. A determination takes about 60–120 seconds.
What concentration range and IR configuration are available?
The CS-580A covers 0.005–100 %. Up to four infrared cells with different sensitivities can be combined so that both trace and very high sulfur or carbon levels are measured accurately. Robust cells for high sulfur concentrations and a gold IR path for halogen- or acid-containing samples are available. Single- or multipoint calibration with certified standards keeps the wide working range reliable.
Can the CS-580A run TOC and TIC?
Yes. The CS-580A series is equipped for TOC analysis to DIN EN 15936, using optional acid-resistant autosamplers, and an optional TIC module adds total inorganic carbon. This makes it suitable for soils, sediments, building materials and waste where organic and inorganic carbon fractions both matter. Additive Plus configures the acid-resistant option and TIC module to your application before shipping.
What sample throughput and automation does it offer?
Typical sample weights are 50–500 mg, which lets you analyze heterogeneous samples representatively. For high throughput, an optional autoloader with 36 or 130 crucible positions runs sequences with minimal operator attention, and an acid-resistant plastic-crucible-holder version is available for aggressive matrices. Results export via LIMS, report or text file.
What does the CS-580A need to run?
It needs oxygen at 99.5 % purity (2–4 bar) and compressed air (4–6 bar), an external PC and monitor, and a balance with 0.0001 g resolution. It runs on 230 V, 50/60 Hz (max heat-up current 2,000 W), and uses magnesium perchlorate and sodium hydroxide as reagents. A 5 kVA voltage stabilizer is available for unstable supplies. The analyzer measures about 550 × 1000 × 600 mm and weighs ~90 kg.
What is the lead time, and can Additive Plus set it up?
The CS-580A is configured to order; request a quote for the current lead time. Additive Plus is an authorized ELTRA / Verder Scientific channel and handles installation, oxygen and balance connection, calibration and operator training, then helps build your carbon/sulfur and TOC SOP. You can also send a sample for a paid measurement first. Sub-4h reply, NDA standard.
