What your process engineer actually checks

What your process engineer actually checks

High-volume recovery, built for AM powder

The DG 70 puts an 8.4 HP three-phase motor and 353 CFM behind a 3-inch inlet, with a large 32 ft² star filter that holds airflow under sustained load. It recovers non-reactive metal powder (stainless, nickel), heavy solids, settled dust and liquids in volume — a genuine plant workhorse. It is not an inert or ATEX unit: for reactive metals or combustible dust, we route you to a rated inert / D2 vacuum instead of overselling this one.

An applications engineer on the line

Questions on airflow, filter class, or whether the DG 70 is compliant for your alloy and volume? A named applications engineer answers directly — most replies under 4 hours, NDA standard. We run powder handling and post-processing in our own California shop.

About this product

The Delfin DG 70 is a heavy-duty three-phase industrial vacuum for picking up large quantities of solids, dust and liquids — including non-reactive metal powder in additive-manufacturing environments. An 8.4 HP three-phase motor moves 353 CFM through a 3-inch inlet, and a large 32 ft² star filter keeps that airflow steady under a sustained load. Rated IP55 and built on a heavy steel chassis, it is a high-volume workhorse for AM powder recovery, foundries, machine shops and general plant clean-down. It is not an inert or ATEX unit — for reactive metals such as aluminium and titanium, or combustible dust, use a rated inert / D2 vacuum.

Why teams choose the DG 70

What a process engineer checks before buying a high-volume unit.

8.4 HP three-phase power

A high-output three-phase motor moves 353 CFM through a 3-inch inlet — enough to recover heavy solids, settled dust and liquid in volume without stalling.

Solids, dust & liquids

One machine handles bulky solids, fine settled dust and liquid recovery, so a single unit covers mixed heavy-duty pickup across a facility.

Non-reactive metal powder recovery

Positioned for AM environments recovering non-reactive metal powder (for example stainless and nickel alloys) alongside general plant clean-down.

32 ft² filter, IP55 build

A large-surface star filter resists clogging under continuous load; IP55 ingress protection and a heavy steel chassis suit a demanding plant environment.

Match the vacuum to your material

The DG 70 is a high-volume general unit — not a rated unit for reactive or combustible material.

Use it for
Non-reactive powder & heavy waste

Non-reactive metal powder (stainless, nickel), solids, settled dust and liquids in high volume across AM and industrial plants.

Don’t use it for
Reactive or combustible material

Aluminium, titanium and magnesium powder, or combustible dust, need a rated inert / ATEX vacuum — see the Mistral inert and D2 line below.

Ask us if
You’re unsure

Send us the alloy, particle size and volume so an engineer can confirm the DG 70 is compliant, or route you to an inert / D2 unit.

Common questions

Don't see yours? Email [email protected] — NDA standard, typical reply within 4 hours.

What is the DG 70 designed for?
The DG 70 is a heavy-duty three-phase industrial vacuum for picking up large quantities of solids, dust and liquids. In additive manufacturing it is used to recover non-reactive metal powder such as stainless and nickel alloys, and it also handles foundry waste, machine-shop swarf, settled dust and liquid across a plant. It is a high-volume general-purpose unit; for reactive metals such as aluminum or titanium, or combustible dust, use a rated inert or ATEX vacuum instead.
Can the DG 70 be used for metal powder in additive manufacturing?
Yes, for non-reactive metal powder. The DG 70 is positioned for AM environments recovering non-reactive alloys — for example stainless steel and nickel-based powders — and general powder clean-down. It is not an inert or ATEX-certified unit, so it must not be used for reactive metal powders such as aluminum, titanium or magnesium, which require immersion-separation inert vacuums. Send Additive Plus your alloy and particle size and an engineer will confirm the DG 70 is appropriate before you buy.
Is the DG 70 safe for reactive or combustible material?
No. The DG 70 is a standard heavy-duty vacuum for non-combustible, non-reactive material. Reactive metal powders (aluminum, titanium, magnesium) and combustible dust must be collected with a rated inert immersion-separation vacuum or an ATEX-certified D2 unit. Additive Plus carries the Delfin Mistral 451 inert and Mistral D2 models for exactly these applications. If you are unsure whether your material is reactive or combustible, contact us with the details before selecting a unit.
How much can it pick up, and how strong is the suction?
The DG 70 is driven by an 8.4 HP three-phase motor delivering 353 CFM of airflow through a 3-inch inlet — sized for continuous, high-volume recovery rather than occasional cleanup. A 32 ft² star filter keeps that airflow steady as material loads up. The exact collection volume depends on the configuration you choose; because the DG 70 is a larger capital unit, an Additive Plus engineer will confirm the container and filter setup for your throughput.
What power supply and protection does it have?
The DG 70 runs on three-phase power at 460 V, 60 Hz, and carries IP55 ingress protection for a demanding industrial environment. Three-phase supply and the heavy steel chassis are what let it sustain 8.4 HP output continuously. If a facility only has single-phase power available, this unit is not suitable — Additive Plus can point you to a single-phase alternative such as the DM 3 EL and help you match the supply to your duty cycle.
How large and heavy is the DG 70?
The DG 70 measures 26 × 46 × 57 in (660 × 1180 × 1450 mm) and weighs 331 lb — a floor-standing unit on a heavy chassis, not a portable vacuum. Measured noise is 72 dB(A) per EN ISO 3744, which is reasonable for a machine of this output. Because of its size and three-phase requirement, plan a fixed or semi-fixed location; Additive Plus can advise on placement and hose runs for your plant layout.
What consumables does it use?
The DG 70 uses a large 32 ft² polyester star filter (Class L) as its primary filter, with optional finer secondary or absolute filtration depending on your dust. Plan to reorder the primary filter and any collection bags on a schedule set by your dust load. Additive Plus stocks genuine Delfin filters and consumables in the US so you can reorder without downtime — ask us for a recommended change schedule for your material.
