What your adsorption lab actually checks
Pretreatment off the critical path
Degassing 3 or 6 samples in parallel while the analyzer measures removes the main throughput bottleneck — and consistent vacuum-and-heat prep is what keeps BET and pore numbers reproducible.
A materials engineer on the line
Degassing-protocol setup and configuration from engineers who run surface-area and porosity analysis in-house at Additive Plus.
- BELPREP VAC II (3 sample ports, up to 430 °C) or BELPREP VAC III (6 sample ports, up to 450 °C)
- Vacuum / heat degassing as standard; flow / heat degassing under inert gas as an option
- Temperature accuracy ±5 °C on both models
- VAC II: automatic purge-gas stop and automatic pumping-speed switching against sample scattering
- VAC III: programmable temperature control
- Installation and on-site operator training — included in every quotation
What the BELPREP VAC is
The BELPREP VAC is a vacuum degasser from Microtrac — an accessory to a BELSORP gas adsorption analyzer, not a measuring instrument. Before a surface area or pore size measurement, adsorbed water and gases have to be removed from the sample by heating it under vacuum or in an inert gas flow. The BELPREP VAC does this on a separate station, so samples are prepared at the same time as the analyzer measures.
Microtrac names the BELPREP VAC II and VAC III as the external pretreatment for the BELSORP MINI X and BELPREP equipment for the BELSORP MAX G; the BELSORP MAX X also takes externally pretreated samples. The sample cell is degassed on the BELPREP VAC and then moved to the analyzer port.

VAC II or VAC III — which one to take
The two models differ in capacity, top temperature and automation. Pick by how many samples you prepare and how fragile they are:
| Samples per run | VAC II: 3 · VAC III: 6 |
| Top temperature | VAC II: 430 °C · VAC III: 450 °C |
| Temperature program | VAC III only: programmable heating |
| Fine powders | VAC II only: automatic pumping-speed switching keeps fine samples from being drawn out of the cell |
| Purge gas | VAC II only: automatic purge-gas stop |
| Bench space | VAC II: 321 × 158 × 363 mm · VAC III: 400 × 317 × 383 mm |
A four-port BELSORP such as the MINI X or MAX X fills fastest from a six-port VAC III; a single-sample MAX G is usually well served by a three-port VAC II.
Where the BELPREP VAC stops — and what to take instead
The BELPREP VAC only prepares samples; it does not measure. Its top temperature is 430 °C (VAC II) or 450 °C (VAC III) — the in-situ heater of the BELSORP MAX X reaches 550 °C if your material needs more. Moving the cell from the degasser to the analyzer exposes it briefly; for sensitive, hydrophilic samples Microtrac recommends pretreatment at the measuring port with the in-situ heater of the MINI X, MAX G or MAX X. The BELSORP MR 1 pretreats its samples itself, so it does not need a BELPREP VAC. The power figures exclude the vacuum pump; the quotation states which pump is supplied.
