About this product

The Shining 3D FreeScan UE Pro2 is a fully wireless, metrology-grade laser handheld 3D scanner. It measures at 0.02 mm accuracy with 50 blue-laser lines at 3,460,000 points/s, uses patented video photogrammetry (VPG) that eliminates the need for coded markers, and carries an on-board inspection module so you can check parts on the move — indoors, outdoors, or on the shop floor.

Fully wireless capture on-site — no cable to the part or the PC.

Why metrology teams choose the FreeScan UE Pro2

Traceable accuracy, twice the speed of the previous generation, no cable.

Certified, traceable accuracy

0.02 mm accuracy and 0.02 + 0.015 mm/m with photogrammetry, tested to VDI/VDE 2634 Part 3 and ISO 10360 in Shining 3D’s ISO/IEC 17025 accredited lab.

Fifty lines, twice the speed

50 laser lines capture at 3,460,000 points/s and up to 180 fps — double the previous generation. Switch to 7 parallel lines for fine detail or a single line for deep pockets.

Video photogrammetry (VPG)

Shining 3D’s patented video photogrammetry eliminates the need for coded markers and keeps volumetric accuracy consistent on large parts.

Wireless, inspect on the move

Fully wireless at 950 g with an integrated inspection module and embedded computing — run capture and check parts on the floor or in the field. Wireless mode runs from a power bank and needs a Wi-Fi router.

Metrology Performance

The FreeScan UE Pro2 measures at 0.02 mm accuracy and 0.02 + 0.015 mm/m volumetric accuracy with photogrammetry, with resolution from 0.01 to 10 mm and a 600 × 550 mm field of view. Fifty blue-laser lines capture at 3,460,000 points/s and up to 180 fps; a 7-line mode adds fine detail and a single line reaches deep pockets. Accuracy is certified to VDI/VDE 2634 Part 3 and ISO 10360, tested in Shining 3D’s ISO/IEC 17025 accredited lab. See the full specification table below.

Wireless & On-Site Inspection

An integrated wireless module and embedded computing free the UE Pro2 from cables — it runs on a power bank (Shining 3D recommends USB-C PD 100W) and connects through a Wi-Fi router (Wi-Fi 6 recommended), so you can scan large parts, reach tight spots, and work outdoors. The on-board inspection module lets you run quality checks where the part is, rather than carrying it back to a metrology room, which shortens the loop between scan and decision.

Software & Workflow

Scanning runs in the native FreeScan software, with AI feature recognition for holes and slots and real-time mesh display. For inspection the UE Pro2 works with SHINING3D Inspect, PolyWorks Inspector, and Geomagic Control X; for reverse engineering, with EXModel and Geomagic Design X.

Common questions

Don't see yours? Email [email protected] — NDA on request, typical reply within 4 hours.

What accuracy does the FreeScan UE Pro2 achieve, and is it certified?
The FreeScan UE Pro2 reaches 0.02 mm accuracy and 0.02 + 0.015 mm/m volumetric accuracy with photogrammetry. It is certified to VDI/VDE 2634 Part 3 and ISO 10360, tested in Shining 3D’s ISO/IEC 17025 accredited Accuracy Lab, and Shining 3D provides inspection reports and calibration certificates traceable to these standards.
How is the UE Pro2 different from the original FreeScan UE Pro?
The FreeScan UE Pro2 is the newer generation. Shining 3D rates it at up to 3,460,000 points/s and up to 180 fps — double the scanning efficiency of the previous generation — with 50 laser lines instead of 26. It adds an integrated wireless module, embedded computing, and an integrated inspection module, while keeping 0.02 mm accuracy and 0.02 + 0.015 mm/m with photogrammetry.
What is VPG, and do I need markers?
VPG is Shining 3D's patented video photogrammetry, which eliminates the need for coded markers on large objects and keeps volumetric accuracy consistent. Reference markers can still be used on featureless geometry; the Metrology Kit with magnetic marker balls is available for fast setup.
Is the UE Pro2 really fully wireless — what about power and network?
Yes. The FreeScan UE Pro2 has an integrated wireless module and embedded computing, so there is no cable to the PC. Wireless mode requires a Wi-Fi router — it cannot connect directly to a computer — and runs from a power bank; Shining 3D recommends a USB-C PD 100W power bank and a Wi-Fi 6 router. Wireless connectivity handles only data transmission and does not affect accuracy. The scanner weighs 950 g and works indoors and outdoors.
What does the on-board inspection module do?
The FreeScan UE Pro2 has an integrated inspection module (SHINING3D Inspect) so you can run quality checks where the part is, instead of carrying it back to a metrology room. For full reporting, data also works with PolyWorks Inspector and Geomagic Control X.
What metrology software does it work with?
Scanning runs in the native FreeScan software. For inspection, the UE Pro2 works with SHINING3D Inspect, PolyWorks Inspector, and Geomagic Control X; for reverse engineering, with EXModel and Geomagic Design X.
Can it scan reflective or dark surfaces?
Shining 3D states the FreeScan UE Pro2 can reliably scan dark or reflective surfaces, indoors and outdoors, with its blue-laser lines. Mirror-finish surfaces may still need a light matting agent, as with any optical scanner. Tell us your material and finish and our applications engineer will advise.
