What your process engineer actually checks

Laser count scaled to the plate

Two or four 500 W lasers, or eight at 1000 W. Farsoon's calibration keeps part performance uniform across the overlap zones, which is what decides whether an eight-laser plate is usable or just fast.

An applications engineer on the line

Not a ticket queue — engineers who run LPBF in production in-house at AO Metal. Alloy qualification, parameter development, troubleshooting. Sub-4h reply, NDA standard.

About this product

The Farsoon FS721M is a long-format production frame: 28.3×16.5×16.5 in / 720×420×420 mm, with two or four 500 W lasers or a eight-laser 1000 W configuration. The shape suits parts that are long — wing structures, rails, shafts — and runs of smaller parts nested down the length of the plate.

Why engineers choose the FS721M

Four things your process engineer will check first.

Up to eight 1000 W lasers

The FS721M-8 configuration puts 8 kW of laser over a 720×420 mm plate. Farsoon's scanning control keeps performance uniform in the multi-laser overlap zones, which is the part that is hard at this laser count.

A 720 mm long envelope

28.3 in in one axis changes what fits in a single build. Long parts stop being an assembly problem, and nested runs of small parts go down the length of the plate instead of stacking.

Conveyor and breakout station built in

An integrated conveyor system moves the build cylinder to a dedicated breakout station for a fully sealed de-powdering process. On a 5000 kg machine, cylinder handling is a real safety question, not a detail.

Continuous feed, monitored recoating

Continuous powder feeding, optimised gas flow, an integrated filter module and real-time recoating monitoring — the set that decides whether a 250-hour build survives.

How we deliver and support it

What happens between the purchase order and your first qualified part.

Step 01
Scope the cell

We size the configuration against your part mix, then plan power, argon or nitrogen supply and extraction with your facilities team. Machine envelope is 260.2×72.0×98.4 in / 6610×1830×2500 mm; EUR/China: 400V±10%, 3~/N/PE, 50Hz, 32A/40A. The US transformer ships with the machine.

Step 02
Install and train in the USA

Commissioning and operator training by our US service team. First builds are run together, so your operators hand over parts rather than a checklist.

Step 03
Parameters, spares, engineer

Validated parameter sets for your alloy, US-held spares, and an applications engineer who has run LPBF in production in-house at AO Metal. Sub-4h reply, NDA standard.

What the FS721M is built for

Large-Format Metal LPBF with up to Eight 1000 W Lasers. The FS721M runs two or four 500 W lasers, or eight 1000 W lasers over a 28.3×16.5×16.5 in / 720×420×420 mm build envelope. Full specifications are in the Specifications tab below.

Qualified materials

Farsoon lists 316L, TA15 and Ti6Al4V as qualified grades, with AlSi10Mg, IN718, HX and Maraging Steel Grade 300 in process development for the FS721M. Because the platform is open, a grade outside that list is a parameter development project rather than a dead end, and one we can run with you. The alloys we stock are lot-certified and held in the USA.

Common questions

Don't see yours? Email [email protected] — NDA standard, typical reply within 4 hours.

Which alloys are qualified for the Farsoon FS721M?
For the FS721M, Farsoon lists 316L, TA15 and Ti6Al4V as qualified grades, with AlSi10Mg, IN718, HX and Maraging Steel Grade 300 in process development. Because the platform is open, an alloy outside that list is a parameter development project rather than a blocked path, and our applications engineers scope that work with you. Additive Plus stocks lot-certified metal powder in the USA for the common grades, so reordering does not mean re-qualifying a new supplier mid-programme. Every lot we ship carries a certificate of analysis, which is what keeps a qualified process qualified on reorder.
Is an eight-laser machine actually usable, or just fast on paper?
It depends entirely on overlap control. With eight 1000 W lasers over a 720×420 mm plate, most of the plate area sits under more than one scan field, so the question your metallurgist will ask is whether properties in those zones match the rest of the part. Farsoon’s scanning control and calibration are aimed precisely at that. The honest answer is that the eight-laser configuration pays back when nesting keeps every laser busy — on sparse plates a four-laser FS721M is often the better buy.
Is the FS721M an open system, or are we locked to vendor parameters?
Open. Farsoon unlocks key machine parameters on the FS721M, and BuildStar and MakeStar allow real-time build parameter modification with three-dimensional visualisation and diagnostic functions. On the FS721M this is mostly about overlap: with up to eight lasers you want control over how scan fields are stitched across a 720 mm plate, not a fixed strategy. You can change layer thickness within a build and adapt scanning between infill and detail. The parameter set you develop stays yours, which is the difference between owning a process and renting one.
What part size does the FS721M handle, and what fits in one build?
You have 28.3×16.5×16.5 in / 720×420×420 mm to work with on the FS721M. Treat that as the outer limit rather than the usable volume: orientation and supports always cost you some of it. As a reference point, Farsoon publishes one case on this platform: Aerospace wing rudder with internal lattice, at 26.2×2.2×9.9 in / 665×55×252 mm. Send us the STL and we will nest it, tell you how many parts fit per plate and estimate the build time before you commit to anything.
What does installation and training in the USA involve for the FS721M?
Installation is ours: we commission the FS721M in the USA, train your operators, and size the cell with your facilities group before you order. The machine envelope is 260.2×72.0×98.4 in / 6610×1830×2500 mm, it weighs approximately 11023 lb / 5000 kg, it runs on EUR/China: 400V±10%, 3~/N/PE, 50Hz, 32A/40A, and the US transformer ships with the machine. Inert gas draw in process is 6-8 L / min, and we plan argon or nitrogen supply and extraction with you. First builds are run together with your operators, so what you get at handover is parts and a working parameter set, not a checklist and a manual.
How does the FS721M compare with the other Farsoon metal platforms?
The Farsoon metal range is sized by envelope, not by tier, so start from the part and work outwards. Either side of the FS721M sit the Farsoon FS422M CAMS (16.7×16.7×21.7 in with separate build and breakout modules) and the Farsoon FS621M (24.4×24.4×43.3 in with a 1.1 m vertical axis). Laser count is the second decision, and it only pays back when nesting keeps every laser busy. Send the part and the annual volume and we will name the frame that pays back, even when that means talking you down a size.
Can we test the FS721M before committing to a purchase?
Yes. Send an STL and we print a paid benchmark part in California, then hand over the part together with the parameter set and a cost-per-part breakdown, so you are judging your own geometry rather than a vendor sample. For the FS721M we usually print your part next to a witness coupon inside an overlap zone, so you can measure whether multi-laser properties hold where the fields meet. There is no free sample, but there is no obligation either, and a capability call with an applications engineer costs nothing. We will also confirm the current lead time and the configuration Farsoon is shipping today.
